For everyones info, BB4 was not bad because of the format, but it was the selection of the housemates - none of the personalities contrasted with one another, therefore no conflict. In BB2, there were rows between housemates because they were all different, so it wasn't boring. In BB4, they were more or less the same.

Its nothing to do with a particular series , or for that matter , a particular housemate. I have just always find that when these topics are opened , disgruntled veterans who carry a hate for the past few years of Big Brother all have the same solution to fix the ship. Go back to basics. And in my opinion , that is not the soluiton. Thats taking a couple of steps backwards. Big Brother needs to be brought fowards. We have seen the current format , albeit minor adjustments , intact for the past 8 years. Moving even further back to the turn of the millenium is not going to bring in more viewers next year. Its a lazy solution from a group of people who want Big Brother to turn back to the way it was for their own nostalgic benefit.

Sure Big Brother 4 had its format still pretty fresh in 2003 , but in 2009 , that wont spin for the masses. Masses that have already lost faith in the show.

But Stu, I haven't been hating recent series. I liked BB5 very much, found BB6 hilarious and BB7 was an improvement on that, but I think the risks taken for this revamp have made the housemates' lives after BB worse.

Big Brother, being the first big reality tv event (apart from Castaway and Shipwrecked), needs to think of new ideas. So I don't think back to basics would work, but then again evil won't work.

Never said you did . Im just reffering to 'that' group of people who want to take things back to basics. It just seems a common notion to throw on the table now days.

Very true. I can find it annoying when a series starts, and immediately I hear people slamming and saying "back to basics will rescue the show".
