Having read cursorily through this thread, as a fully heterosexual female, my overhwhelming emotion is that I'm glad I'm old. I don't really get this?? there's nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance, good for Cher and Katie I think!!! They aren't conforming to anything just having fun and being 16!!!

Of course you're right. There's nothing at all wrong with it. The point of the post, perhaps too subtly posited, is that they are being hailed as visions of originality. They really - really - are not; by any considered musical comparison. I've said before that the two girls themselves are hardly responsible for this drivel. It's mostly the judges, and in particular Tweedy and Cowell. I do despair, however, when younger fans who clearly have a narrow scope of reference fall for this lazy posturing.

I thought Katie was quite brave wearing her strange eyelashes etc in Cheryl's house that time, I don't think she's at all a comformist, and seems to be having a lot of problems fitting in within the x-factor house... Oh thanks for the pics! Debbie isn't Blondie, she was the lead singer in a band called Blondie. And I never really said they were non-conformist or unconventional. Original was the word, I believe. They were and they are. I believe neither Cher nor Katie were, are or will ever be. But, hey, it's all a matter of personal taste.
