Money matters.

That Trainner (Oliver Sherwood) of the winning horse
give him credit Kaz
he just said it did not matter if he won
all he wanted was his horse back in one piece

I didn't have it last year but I'm still sick LT because 'big horse racing expert' me drew a blank - Zilch - but my wife backed Many Clouds AND Alvarado both each way.

I'll NEVER live this down.

I was watching with my mate and he backed Druids Nephew but he also backed Monbeg Dude so he wasn't too upset. Hard Luck LT - And you tipped Alvarado earlier this week so I thought you'd backed it.

I was on Druid's nephew too...I did have a quid e/w on Alvarado, and fortunately on my work sweepstake had Saint Are...so I've only actually lost Ł4. Won Ł125 last year.

Four middle-priced horses in the first four and the favourite in 5th = a decent day from the other side of the counter .

If fav or 2nd fav had won this year we would have been ****ed, people were throwing money at them.

The novice hurdler, Seedling died instantly after he hit and somersaulted over a large jump as he took part in the Mersey Novices Hurdle.

He tragically fell at the second to last on the third day of races at Aintree.

Thirteen other horses were entered into the race and all finished comfortably.

Some 39 horses raced in the Crabbie's Grand National where they were expected to jump 30 fences.

This year supporters of national campaign group Animal Aid led a protest against the death and injury of horses in such races.

Campaigners scaled the 4th plinth in London's Trafalgar Square to wrap Gift Horse, by Hans Haacke, in a banner that reads: "Horse Racing: You bet, they die."

Yes it's obviously sad that a horse died.

Horses die every day though, racing or not, they can die or get injured and then have to be put to sleep even by galloping around happy in fields..

Protests like the one posted about above are pointless.

30 fences though? the horse that died had already jumped 27 fences.
And of 39 only 13 finished, it just seems like it's still too extreme a course even following recent modifications.

The BHA and the universities and charities they work with obviously don't think it's too extreme a course, there's been a downward trend of injuries and deaths over the past 15 years so the modifications and work they are doing must be helping.

Every year around Grand National time all this stuff comes up and although I obviously feel bad for the horses that are injured or worse I just find it all so pointless, these horses are bred and reared to race, the injuries could happen even when a horse isn't racing and the sport is one of most regulated animal involved sports in the world.

Seedling died in a different race, not the national itself. The race he was running in, 14 horses were entered and 13 finished.

No fatalities in the Grand National, 19 horses finished but all horses and jockies were unscathed.
