Men have been arrested for a "public order offence" while attending a private party?

I'm going to say again, because some people think I (and others) are defending the boneheads who did this - I'm not, they are scum. But there wasn't the same outrage when Muslims burned poppies. They were also charged with a public order offence, and fined Ł50. Poppies represent people who've died, is someone going to tell me that's not the same thing either?

It was a deplorable act, but people's reaction is over the reaction is over the top. Should we now monitor every private party now, in case someone's doing something we don't approve of?

agree with that, the other thing about this while deplorable is why it made the top story on the London news when four stabbings since Halloween and the Mayor saying it would take a decade to tackle knife crime in London (in other words not on my watch) was pushed down the ranks

also with regard to the private party comment, yes it was but they made it public when the shared it online, whether that was shared by someone who didn't agree with what was going on or by someone who thought it was hilarious remains to be seen

They recorded it and shared it on social media, at that point anything "private" goes out the window. I do agree with the points you are trying to make though

Why? It isnt a crime to record a crime? Unless they helped to build the tower, I dont see why they should be prosecuted, the person that recorded it set people to justice.

They did not see it as crime
only after the online feedback
did those men walk into
the Police Station in South London.

The Person that Recorded it and posted it online
is one of them
maybe the 19 year old.

I have to admit I immediately thought it was posted by someone at the party... but without the party-thrower's knowledge. If they truly posted this themselves... well it speaks for itself as to what kind of people they are. Still don't think it's the massive story it's been made into.

When they put that footage in a public space then it's up to be commented and acted on.

This wasn't a private party, it was an intentional public statement.

I don't understand, they were also charged with an offence so why are you saying it was treated differently?

Maybe I’m thinking of the wrong time, but there was a massive outrage about poppies being burnt. Huge. Only thing people were talking about for days on end.

only takes an ounce of empathy to see that this is not - and should never have been made - a laughing matter

Such grim behaviour tbh.

And I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for twenty-first century technology.

I'm not sure if you're saying that as though it SHOULDN'T change things? When people say / do things like this in private, it's not particularly tasteful, but it doesn't actively harm anyone. When those things go into the public eye and people who were actually affected by something like this can see it, then it can and does cause emotional distress... so it becomes something far worse.

That said, in this case I really have to question the mindset of these men. There's making a throwaway controversial joke in the moment - I enjoy a good round of Cards Against Humanity as much as the next nihilist - but then there's getting out the PVA glue and crayons and sitting round the table to craft and decorate a ****ing scale model building. I mean... really...

we burn a catholic alive on our bonfires, they did not intend, i guess, for anyone other than their poorly educated friends to see it

if it had been trump and his entire family in say airforce one model people would be so happy on here as would a lot of 16-24s

im not defending it but just posing a scenario
