The UK-wide emergency alert test has provoked a number of untrue conspiracy theories, shared thousands of times on social media.

Many of these involve the fact it’s being sent via 4G and 5G phone masts, considered damaging or invasive within conspiracy circles.

There are claims that the test today will cause death or injury to millions of people. One tells people to avoid the test by heading out of towns and cities to “avoid the wave”.

Other theories claim it’s a government attempt to control your phone.

There are also claims that the alert is a signal to activate a dangerous pathogen already present in the Covid vaccine, making people sick.

None of these are true, and ignore the fact that these tests take place regularly around the world with no ill effects.

I've just had to reassure an elderly lady who I go to bingo with that there's nothing wrong, twas just a test. She rang me cos she didn't know why her phone had beeped so loudly. Anyway she's fine now, was a bit alarmed.

I've had that with an elderly neighbour too.
She was in near panic and shaking.

Got her sorted with a cup of tea though.
Explained it's nothing to worry about, just a test.
Getting her to come over to us for tea later too.
Bless her.

We were on a train so it was late as in tunnel quite amusing when all the phones went off ...think its a good thing particularly if you are in a flood risk area ...

[Alarmageddon! Emergency alert test sparks
mass confusion across UK as phones sound
one minute early,
Three customers' devices stay silent,
alarms interrupt live BBC news bulletin
and worshippers are taken
by surprise with sirens blaring out
inside church

The alarm was for 10 seconds and no
louder than a phone's loudest ring volume
It coincided with major sporting events
including the annual London marathon]

I cant see how it is going to disadvantage anyone, bet the people who were burned out last summer would have been glad of it, I dont see why everything has to be such hard work, just turn it off in settings job done if you dont want it

its embarrassing, it has been advertised for weeks, our train driver told us it was going to happen, the Church should have been aware and warned the congregation, then read the text, its perfectly clear .....ITS A TEST, mindblowing how people moan about everything

I wish they would invent phones and the internet and weather forecasts and windows and then we would not need this utterly ridiculous alert thing

My elderly neighbour did not get the alarm so i told her that its because she voted labour and she only had herself to blame

tbh the tears were way, way over the top

she really is such a drama queen
