Kendrick Lamar Explains Delay Behind J.Cole Collaboration

Kendrick Lamar explains what's kept his long-awaited collaboration from getting to the fans.

Though Kendrick Lamar has gathered a lot of hype for his studio debut good kid, m.A.A.d city, he can't escape questions about his oft-discussed collaboration with J. Cole.

In an interview on GlobalGrindTV, K. Dot took the blame for the project's delay. "You can put the blame on me, just off the fact that my debut album coming up. I have to make that priority."

Kendrick explained why he didn't want to work on both projects at once. "I didn't want to [work on] too many different projects. Gotta keep that focus [on good kid, m.A.A.d city]. Cole understands that."

Finally, the Compton rapper addressed why he collaborates with J. Cole in the first place. "Two days ago, I was out in the studio with him. ...We were chopping it up. The reason why I really mess with dude is because he's so genuine as a person. A lot of times you come across other rappers or other artists, and the competitive spirit is always there. It's there so much that you can't even talk to them as person. But Cole is one of them dudes that'll tell you his faults, his mistakes, and his insecurities, and his highs."

Dead Prez about to drop Information Age October 16. Great news! And about damn time!

dead prez's stic.man and M-1 will drop their first album in eight years.

dead prez has announced its signing to Krian Music Group and their new album Information Age, releasing digitally on October 16th and physically on January 22, 2013.

According to a press release, the duo, which consists of stic.man and M-1, "embarks on their politically driven, revolutionary and eye-opening missive about hot button topics such as government control, health care and economic class."

"We feel very positive about our joint venture with Krian. We've had a great relationship with Royalty network for many years," said the group. "Dead prez has always prided ourselves on our independence and integrity and we were able to form a partnership with Krian that can appreciate what dead prez' significance to the culture is and has the capabilities to help us reach bigger goals with the Information Age album around the world. Team work makes the dream work!"

The pair last released a studio album with 2004's RBG: Revolutionary Bug Gangsta, and have since dropped solo projects and mixtapes.
