It's dreadful what's happening to the ordinary Afghan people.

Isn't it about time one of the Islamic countries stepped in?

[On Friday, the Taliban seized the country's
second largest city Kandahar,
the latest provincial capital to fall.

The southern city of 600,000 people was
once the Taliban's stronghold,
and is strategically important as a trade hub.]

[The Taliban also took the nearby city
of Lashkar Gah and now control about
a third of Afghanistan's provincial capitals.]

Lisa Nandy Labour MP
is crazy.

She seems to think the USA/UK
must stay there and help the Afghan Army?

But many of them have left
no longer willing to fight.

Well I'd guess a lot of veterans who helped fight in Afghanistan.
Will be thinking what are the losses of their comrades lives for.
What were their own efforts even for.

I actually wouldn't have agreed with going in, in the first place, however now walking callously away leaving goodness knows how many civilians to be ending up being killed.
I think is wrong, totally wrong too.

He delivered yes, his predecessor's plan to pull out.
Yes however, I think Biden is wrong on this.

Then also, why were we there.
As poodles to the USA or genuinely because we cared, rather than just claim to care.

I see this partly as an abandonment of duty myself.
Which will only bring about more hatred against the West from more Afghans, increasing the likelihood of, from the Taliban's hatred of the West of now more terrorist attacks.

The thing we, in part went in to eradicate hopefully.

Around 2 decades and now heading back to square one.
Nothing at all to be proud of in my view.

the americans are adamant that the afghan government have the security forces necessary to maintain their position. We have been training those forces for 20 years. America and nato have also pledged the air power to assist them. There are limits on what forces can do in a country with the terrain that Afghanistan has. We have to accept that and try and ensure that it doesnt become a terrorist haven in the future using intelligence and drone strikes. We have moved on a long way from the technology that was available 20 years ago

20 years of advancement in technology haven't stopped the Taliban again reclaiming territory they were driven from over the last 20 years.

Nor is it, although I know it's not a cool thing to care about lost lives at times on here, however nor is that advancement in technology going to stop the killing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan again.
In fact it's not now, as innumerable lives are likely being lost already now.

Technology may have advanced.
It's not much help in this current murderous and terrorism rising again situation.

The crux of the issue is this .... does Afghanistan pose a present threat to the security of western nations. The answer is no, not at the moment. If that situation changes then we can expect some swift action. Until then, all we can do is let the country sort it's issues out for itself. It's not feasible to prop up a government indefinitely that can't look after itself. It's had 20 years of aid and assistance and that is still continuing, but it's up to the government to have it's own troops and forces on the ground to ensure that law and order is maintained

We've been having our arses kicked in Afghan since the first Afghan war in about 1840. No more British lives should be wasted here, let other Islamic countries sort them out.

Really makes you wonder why we went in and interfered in the first place then and stayed there around 20 years under successive governments.

Only to then pack up and leave it and it's innocent citizens to the mercy of , yes, in fact terrorists again.

What a disgrace to the already lost lives of the armed services.
All lost for what , NOTHING.
