It's official: Lady Gaga is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Taylor Kinney.
I know because I was there when she showed off the ring.

The 28-year-old pop star displayed the evidence - given to her by the star of "Chicago Fire" - to her family and friends on Valentine's Day at her parents' restaurant, Joanne Trattoria, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

I was finishing off my plate of spaghetti and meatballs, when my wife Bonnie, enjoying a seafood special, noticed a pretty woman sporting platinum blond hair (ed. note: Gaga had recently changed to a brunette hairdo; Lewis thinks this was a wig) and a strapless dress - despite bone-chilling temperatures - walk into the restaurant at about 6:45 Saturday night, taking a seat at the small bar, located at the front of the restaurant, just a few short feet away from our table.

I heard the singer say "it was time" as she flashed the ring around. Family members said the pair had been going out for about four years.

Gaga and Kinney were accompanied by two massive bodyguards, one located by Gaga, the other near the entrance to the main dining room. Her father, Joe Germanotta, who owns the restaurant with chef and author Art Smith, popped open a bottle of champagne to toast the couple and welcome Kinney into the family.

There had been tabloid rumors, sparked by Gaga's own tweet on Christmas, that the pair were already engaged and ready to tie the knot.
Kinney, standing, seemed a bit embarrassed as they talked about trying to find the right ring and time to give it to her.

About a half-hour later the bodyguard nearest to us started talking at his wrist and putting on his coat, as Gaga and Kinney, followed by family and friends, began to make their way out of the restaurant.
Bonnie and I both said congratulations to Gaga as she passed. She said "Thank you." We offered the same wishes to Kinney, who rubbed Bonnie's back and shook my hand as he exited.
The restaurant returned to normal. I ordered coffee.
