I usually agree with your points but the ‘provocation’ is there for all to see .

Initially the protesters were being shouted at but the physical attacks are now getting more common and more violent

They are very much provoking some kind of response/ reaction- that much is not in any doubt .

Thing is when people are being late for work and getting into trouble or people are sick and need to get to hospitals or whatever the scenario… people will react aggressively if they are already under intense pressure/ stress

It is provocation but I can see why you might think not if you're conflating provocation with justification; they're not the same thing.

You can admit that an act is (clearly) provoked whilst still taking the stance that the response was excessive or unjustified.

Tryinf to frame these incidents as "unprovoked" is just nonsense.

That said, I don't think physical violence or anything that could cause actual serious physical harm is the right response. I can see how and why it happens though, and it'll only get worse. Someone's going to end up dead or with a life-altering injury, it's inevitable with thousands of people ****ing around in traffic.
