Arista, your main point is "it can be treated". Yes, at the moment, it can. But there's a reason they're not giving the vaccine to everyone that has become symptomatic. Releasing the vaccine so early into the pandemic could cause the virus to mutate and beat the vaccine - it sounds unreal - but it happens all the time over small virus' and is a very real risk in this one too.

Just received an email from my Uni about Swine Influenza... suggesting that they're keeping an eye and receiving government updates about it. Since students are most at risk (we have international students coming and go constantly) - I have a feeling this is a pre-warning that the phase is rising from 4 to 5.

The virus can no longer be tracked. ANY chance of containment has long gone, trust me. The only way this is going to go is the eventual demise of the virus, which mightn't be for a while.

http://news.uk.msn.com/uk/article.as...entid=16414185

"The deadly swine flu virus could infect up to 40% of the UK population in the next six months if the outbreak becomes a pandemic, world health officials have warned."

40% won't die... but if the virus continues at the rate it's at now, 40% doesn't seem wholly unrealistic.

Early on I heard from news sources that 140 had died in Mexico..... but the World Health Org., have been only able to verify 7 (...or was it 27?). Anyway 140 didn't die in Mexico so hopefully it's not as bad as some media outlets are making out.
