Hi Monie

Welcome to the board.

I'll let ROB let you know if you've got the right answer, but if you have it's you're turn to set the next question.

It's really nice to see you,

Happy posting

Hi there, money - welcome to the site! Hope you enjoy posting here.

I thought that was a really good question you set, but it has to be exceptional to get the better of ROB, as you'll probably know if you've seen how well she did in the 'Millionaire' quiz!

Sorry for butting in - over to you for the next question, ROB.

OK, here's another Paul Clarke question!

What innovative and useful item did Paul win a Design Show award for in 1998?

N.B. This was as in addition to the national prize he won for his dissertation on 'computer generated humans in films'!

Hurrah! I know the answer to this one.

The clever, and cleary innovative and thoughtful Mr Clarke very considerately designed a kitchen clampy thing to help people with athritus.

Meanwhile, Betty was pontificating how big space was and how thick and shallow anyone not expert in the humanities is.

I did know the answer - honest, but careful review of my 'favourites' led me to this web address for any of you wishing more information, or to laugh at Paul's funny hair from his student days.

Click here to see Feef's fave

I've just realised, it was called a Kitchen Clamp Mate. He loves that word.

Mucho admiration Feefs old chum! Didn't take you long to get a 'handle' or a 'grip' on that one (groan) hahaha!

Sadly, not only have I visited this site, I have to admit I have also read the attached riveting item re: his dissertation prize!

http://pdmweb.bournemouth.ac.uk/page.../bea/10399.htm

I must admit, I have thought to myself that whilst Elizabeth basked in her tree-hugging 'I want an alcohol free world where everyone runs round naked on a beach, and everyone is equal, free and happy' speil, Paul has actually done something practical about improving the lives of the disabled. Not a word of this to anyone. What a guy!

Any rode up, all that aside, it's your turn to set the question Feefs.

Oh no - the responsibility of posing a question to you lot!

And, I've just read that website properly, and realised that Paul got a BA, not a BEng as I'd assumed, or at least a BSc. All these months and I thought I had an affinity with him because he was a fellow techno person who loved arranging the greek alphabet on paper for reasons other than the study of ancient civilisation! I must admit, his dissertation did sound a bit like a girl's subject, but ho-hum - I'm sure it did at least involve a few sums, or a class in painting by numbers. I digress ...

Maintaining the practical theme and because I'm not feeling very innovative myself - and as a test to see who really does pay attention ...

Why did Dean ask BB for a nut?

Feefs! Behave, thou shalt not cast nasturtions on the lovely Paul Clarke. He has a 2:1 BSc Hons (probably the only thing I really have in common with him) in Product Design Visualisation!

The answer to your question is I believe,
so he could mend the lawn mower, and, you know, mow the lawn, alright?

It definitely says on the webpage that he got a BA, not BSc, but it was of course (Hons). Being a saddo, I researched this further. It seems you can do either a BA or BSc in Product Design Visualisation at Bournemouth, depending on what options you take. This is what the website had to say on the subject.
Quote:
The overall philosophy of the course is to produce graduates who can design and develop well-considered and potentially commercial products.

The attainment of this goal requires the use of creativity and innovation to solve problems whilst addressing the functional, social and economic needs of the market place. The course is offered in two streams: BA (Hons) and BSc (Hons).

The BSc option places more emphasis on the technological area of design. The BA option develops a deeper understanding of the artistic and contextual issues of product design.

The Product Design Course is validated by the Institution of Engineering Designers, allowing continuation to professional qualifications.
In case you think the site got it wrong, here's a full listing of the fun subjects he must have done. As he did a dissertation in his final year, not a group project, he must have done the BA.

Quote:
Level 1
Design Communications
Materials & Materials Processing 1
Design in Context 1
Applied Science & Technology 1
Design Methods & Projects 1

Level 2
Computers in Design
Materials & Materials Processing 2
Design in Context 2
Applied Science & Technology 2
Design Methods & Projects 2

Industrial Placement - minimum 40 weeks

Level 3
BA Option
Professional Design Practice
Technological Design Studies
Technological Systems & Materials
Dissertation
Individual Project

BSc Option
Professional Design Practice
Technological Design Studies
Group Project
Individual Project
As there is hardly any difference between the BSc and BA I am now comforted by the fact that some of the first and second year subjects must have included a few Greek letters. I also noted the bit on Career Opportunities doesn't list 'object of desire' on award winning reality tv show.

Yet again, I digress. ROB, you are of course correct about Dean. I should have known that one would be too easy, with clever-clogs like yourself in the building. Well done and over to you, for I'm sure something a little more inspired.

And of course anyone who has just read part one of my Dean Interview should have known that as well (and if you haven't read it yet, why haven't you read it yet ) as he actually mentions the incident.

ROB, definitey your turn for a question.

OK Feefs., I don't mind if he is an artist. Sensitive, tactile, sensual...................

Anyway, I share one of those with him too (only a Khyber, courtesy of the OU)

So, on to the question!

On the 60:40 night, Paul told Helen about what one of his aunts did for a living.

What was it?

An absolute doddle!

Yes monie, you do on here when were talking Paul Clarke! We know more about him than he does! I really didn't think it would take anyone long to think of a scene when he lay, in only the boxers, sprawled tantalisingly across the bed, full of angst and pent up 'emotions'............

Told you it was an absolute doddle!

Over to you chilledbootz!

I too are an avid fan of both Paul and Helen, I have had to log in on this site under a different name, as I lost my password, and then after re registering again, Mark sent me a new password, but it was to late, you will possibly remember me on the TBB site as Hallie
