........Britains most negative or insecure man?

Everything he comes out with is negative. Has he ever been positive?

Everytime he opens his mouth, it has to be a put down and we all know, people who continually put down others are majorly insecure. It's their way of making themselves feel better.

It's not like most pompous people. They do have positive moments, but Derek is 100% negative.

Do you think he has problems with his sexuality? He may be open about it in the house, but do you think it's a problem in every day life.

I have met many negative people, but Derek is the worst. He has to put others down, just to make himself feel 'special', 'important' and 'secure'

The big giveaway, aside from the negativity, is his own refusal to accept any criticism, which is greeted with anger and retaliation. This suggests major insecurities and infact Derek is a very weak man. His focus on his politics is a refusal to face his own personal life.

It would be very interesting, should someone 'interogate' him, as I think he is very weak. He has cried in the diary room for very little before.

i like derek because he tells people what he thinks of them and i think in no way that he is insecure plus he is funny as well

Derek is quality..he speaks his mind and his put downs are hilarious

I suppose it is easy to criticise the other housemates.

But my point is, he can't take them back.

He can't take what he gives and I can't believe he's like that in real life, he'd be in hospital 24/7!

He is very insecure, I see it every day, the guy has emotional issues somewhere, and I am assuming (maybe wrongly) it's his sexuality.

He's never really talked about himself, other than his work.

Well, yes. It's easy to criticise anyone.

I think they are all insecure, but Derek is showing major insecurities that I see at work every day

As much as I like Derek, I do agree with a lot of what inthehood has said.

He really doesn't take criticism well, but is liberal at dealing it out. I think though that this is mainly to do with the fact that he looks down on all those in the house. In his opinion they are not worthy or good enough to criticise him. He believes that cos he's older and wiser he's therefore always right.

And he may have a point. This may sound snobby, but with the mindless bickering and bitching, I can understand why he looks down on these childish ingrates who are far too self-absorbed and take themselves far too seriously. It may not justify his behaviour or opinions but I can certainly understand why he feels and acts like he does.

derek has real character, but he is also very self-righteous and is somewhat of a hypocrite.

He comes across as such because he speaks the Queen's English amoungst people who can bearly speak the language at all, and is very critical of housemates who cause trouble. You have to feel for him in a way stuck in an environment of people who he cant relate to. But he isnt boring, he is quite entertaining in his own way due to his mannerism. He is outspoken and not afraid to speak his mind.

And yes he does come across a little self-righteous but bear in mind he is in a house of immature kids who have no morals or values whatsoever.

he cant take other peoples opinions on board at all but thinks it normal to influence the thoughts of others.
although hes a stuck up fox hunter i still kinda like him tho because of the way he speaks his mind and interacts with science, pure class!

He doesnt take anybody else's view into consideration because he thinks he is above them all, and i agree with him

he has his flaws, however he is the funniest person in the house and the housemate that i think i would get on with the most
