Four years ago, comic Russell Brand was in drug rehab, his career in freefall - now he's poised to become a household name. Bryony Gordon meets him

Yesterday, it was announced that Russell Brand - stand-up comic and music obsessive - has been named Time Out's Comedian of the Year

Tonight, he is presenting the NME Awards. Tomorrow, he is no doubt taking over the world. This may seem like a tall order for a man best-known for presenting Big Brother discussions on E4, but having witnessed the hypnotic effect of his personality, it is a distinct possibility.
