Apparently I have a new private message, yet when I click on my notifications nothing new is showing? I have logged in and out, but it's still there?

If you're on firefox go to tools...clear history/delete cache/cookies (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cookies)

If you;re on anything else just dabble in the options
