Thought I'd suggest this, don't know if it's be formally done before. Anyone who wants to take part, just post in here.

Once we get a reasonable amount of people, we'll hold the first debate. Each member will get to choose the topic, in order of them signing up. Nothing too inflammatory please, to avoid mass arguing.

I'll choose a topic for the first debate, which will be Should school uniform be abolished? I can think of both pros and cons for this. But wait till we have some members first

1 topic every few days, probably get through 2 a week.

Ground rules. Topics chosen should be reasonably non contentious, no arguing or the topic will be abandoned.

It would be helpful and interesting if we could, as Angus said, quote sources to back up what we say.

I'm assuming that if other FMs wish to contribute to the thread they become members by default in any event. The main point of the thread, so far as I can see, is that it will be more structured, with certain guidelines - ie a debater offers not just personal opinions, but opinions backed up by logical explanation, facts and reasoning.

Well, yes that's how it would work, everyone who contributed would be automatically added to the list, so there'd be no exclusion. I suppose we can give it a tentative try, and if there's any issues, that'll be the end of it. So if we all just bear in mind not to pick contentious subjects for debate, it should be fine.
