A very sensible development, and one which was inevitable.

I think it's utterly disgusting and ridiculous...
I mean just HOW is an honest pimp supposed to make a decent living these days?? This will be devastating for businesses up and down the country. I've been paying Living Wage for many years... How am I supposed to tell Trixie and Cookie that they'll only be getting minimum wage from now on? |

"If" I was a Pimp I would go in as cleaning Lady mop /bucket in hand Big Wig smile for the copopers And once in Get My money from My Hoe I should send that as story line for the new GTA6 game. I guess the men would have a big choice of wigs on that 1080P game. Last edited by arista; 16-01-2016 at 07:45 AM. |

That's really grim, it won't stop trafficking and exploitation.

Well said Smudgie - my point exactly. It is the oldest 'profession' in the world and one which will always thrive no matter what adverse state the economy is in. The Government should do as you say: Legalise, Clean Up and Tax it.

I said as soon as I heard that drugs and prostitution were to contribute to GDP that they would be legalised. As long as someone is making money and the state is getting it's cut then who cares how many are exploited or die. The state are the pimps and dealers.

![]() "As long as someone is making money and the state is getting it's cut then who cares how many are exploited or die. The state are the pimps and dealers." Like my 'Sleeping Policemen/Speed Bumps' analogy, drugs and prostitution are too pandemic and deeply entrenched in the UK populace for ANY government to stop them - no matter how much legislation or policing is devoted to doing so. The sensible alternative therefore, is to try to CONTROL these practices, and to ensure that IF people are going to indulge in them, then all possible risks and dangers should be minimised as far as possible. This includes the risk of Hepatitus B and other diseases contracted and spread from the reuse of dirty needles with drug addicts, and a plethora of sexually transmitted diseases from Herpes to AIDS in the case of some prostitution where hygeine, preventionary measures, and reguar health checks are NOT high on the list of some prostitutes or their clients priorities. This will IRREFUTABLY save the NHS untold millions in treating the above - preventable - diseases, but will also first COST untold millions to set up and implement, so OF COURSE any Government should be TAXING the profits of the relevant 'businesses'. Why shouldn't ANY responsible government wish to alleviate the already overburdened tax payer - most of whom do NOT practice drug taking or patronise prostitutes? Why shouldn't these 'businesses' pay tax? I think that these anti-Democratic, anti-Government, anti-State, anti-everything British views are tedious and wearing. It's time to change the record - In my opinion of course.

Maybe not but it might mean that prostitutes can go to the police if they're beaten up, raped, robbed and other prostitutes won't fear persecution if someone goes missing and they're too afraid to report it. Prostitution happens whether we like it or not, we might as well do everything we can to help out the vulnerable. Or is it because this isn't something you could show on an emotional BBC charity appeal that people don't like it? Prostitutes have it so hard. A trafficked girl might stand a chance at going to the police and getting out of this horror if they're properly policing this area. I can't fathom people who think this is a bad idea, as if men who want to sleep with women for money don't already do it and doing this is going to cause some kind of moral scar on the fabric of our nation - help the people who need help; it's still going to be disgusting to people en masse and it's not going to suddenly become a cool thing to do...

Funny how they spend more time policing legal brothels than illegal ones isn't it?

Peter Sutcliffe preyed on prostitutes, that was reported and investigated as it would be for anyone. How would a trafficked girl have a better chance of being taken seriously if the industry she has been forced into is legal or illegal? What's not to fathom, it may appeal to those who feel it is a way out of the mountain of debt they are in...say, students. Without the legal issue it may deem a more viable option hypothetically. And legal or not it won't prevent prostitutes being abused imo.

Corroboration?... the corroboration is in the OP there is a heavy police presence, where are the police at the known brothels operating in the UK?

Of course Kizzy, dear This is a 1st for England so special shifts are on for 7PM to 7AM. And if any of you fellas want to pop in do not go later than 6AM or you may find a cleaner in the corner as they are paid by the hookers to scrub the floor to remove any sticky bits. So I think the Cleaners deserve Respect |
