Socialite Paris Hilton has insisted she is not above the law and will take her punishment for violating probation on the chin. Paris Hilton, five days after she was sentenced to jail, has said she understands the seriousness of drink-driving. "I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation," Hilton said in a statement. "I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse." The 26-year-old added: "I feel the need to correct what I believe are misperceptions about me. "I absolutely realise how serious driving under the influence is. "I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired. Clearly, no one should - no matter how slightly." Hilton must begin her 45-day prison sentence at the Los Angeles Century Regional Detention Facility on June 5 or else risk seeing her sentence doubled. She was handed her jail term after a court ruled she had broken her probation by twice driving while banned earlier this year following a conviction for drink-driving. Lawyers have said they will appeal the decision. |
