Default Don\'t Sneer This Is Telly At It\'s Best

Quote:
SIR Paul McCartney has lashed out at Big Brother. "I am against the celebration of mediocrity," sneers Macca.

What, no chance of Wings reforming then?

After that ugly racism row, the orthodox reaction to Big Brother is now a knee-jerk sneer. Even Lord David Puttnam, the deputy chairman of Channel 4, greeted the new series by kicking it in the goolies.

"I am not proud of the Big Brother row," says Puttnam. "I am not even proud of Big Brother. But it accounts for 15 per cent of the total revenue that keeps Channel 4 afloat."

And there's the rub.

Jade Goody and the other wicked witches may have faded into obscurity but Big Brother is back and remains the most talked about show on British television. Saying that BB is made by cynics and watched by morons is just not good enough. The new series is clearly touched by genius. To fill a house with women and then toss a smouldering, ex-boy band hunk into the mix is great television.

There is nothing dumb about the new Big Brother - apart from the twins, obviously. After the grotesque scenes of the last series - and frankly only Davina's McCall's granny could have complained if the show had been axed - this is what Big Brother does best.

Displaying human nature in cruel, unforgiving, hilarious close-up.

The moment that new boy Ziggy walked into a house stuffed to the rafters with women was gripping stuff. If this was dumb telly then all telly should be this stupid.

Ziggy's entrance was up there with David Attenborough squatting with the apes. It was in the same league as the Sex Pistols swearing at Bill Grundy. It was the funeral of Churchill and David Bowie on Top Of The Pops and Simon fitting his phallic trampoline legs on The Apprentice rolled into one.

The hormones were going wild. The girls hugged and squealed and could not believe their luck. But of course Ziggy cannot and will not love all of them. Already it seems that he has found his object of desire - Chanelle.

How will that go down with Emily, the wannabe actress? Or Charley, the wannabe Wag? Or the twins? Or lovely fat Laura - who is clearly the nicest of them all?

Big Brother has pulled its socks up. BB has remembered to be inventive, inspired - and to let human nature take its course. The show is always best when it has an organic feel - too much manipulation makes it seem forced, and false, and cruel.

The great thing about Ziggy is that he has already achieved many of the wildest dreams of previous contestants. He has done a bit of modelling, been in a band that no one has heard of. He is more at ease with himself than many of the BB saddoes of the past.

It seems to me that, on the far side of the Shilpa Shetty controversy, Big Brother has recovered its humanity. It is always tempting to dismiss the cast as dippy airheads whose ambition far exceeds their talents.

At first, Posh-lookalike Chanelle Hayes seemed a laughable lightweight bit of fluff. You'd have to have had a heart of stone not to chuckle when she said she wanted to be either rich and famous, "Or a speech therapist in Spain".

But yesterday the Sunday Mirror revealed that Chanelle's background is a modern horror story.

Her mother was a crack-addicted hooker and Chanelle was born in Styal jail. Her mum was murdered and mutilated when Chanelle was six months old. And the killer will be released as Big Brother nears its climax.

Now, you could make it up but you would need to be Charles Dickens to do so. How could anyone with a soul not care about this girl?

Already I hope she marries Ziggy and sets up a thriving speech therapy business on the outskirts of Madrid.

The sneering at Big Brother will continue but it will be the most talked about TV show of the year. It deserves every bit of its success.

And come to think of it, what have Paul McCartney and David Puttnam done lately?

BB does rock, although I think it was a mistake putting in all females on launch.

This is just the begining... I find the odd days it is boring.. mainly if you sit, like me, and watch the live feed all day .. after a while it does get boring.

When I watched BB on the couch yesterday one of the psychologists said that the reason they put all females on the launch was so the group would form but obviously with the females as the alpha males. So by putting Ziggy in there, the alpha males like Emily and Charley feel threatened which will cause ructions in the house.

They were obviously expecting fireworks by putting one bloke in, the way Davina was going on about it we were practically expecting a series of catfights, followed by an onscreen shag session with the winner and the stereotype bloke.

Didn't happen, a twist backfires on Endemol yet again.

Don't need bullying and racism to make an entertaining show, though we know that is what you like.

Other series of BB have had plenty of drama from the bitchiness and the gameplaying without the blatant personal malevolence of CBB5, even the times when its got out of hand [BB5], it was handled well enough by Ebdemol.

Until BB7 when they just cocked a snook at the paying audience and CBB5 when they misjudged the mood of the british public to the nth degree by allowing the bottom feeders of Britain to have full reign in embarrassing us all.

But thanks to the pond life of CBB5 I fear we won't be getting drama this series.

I wasn't refering to several thousand moaning minnies with little else to do with their time but phone for help

I also wasn't expecting or wanting a race furore to be displayed once again either.

I am also stating that Endemol are being watched very closely. Andy Duncan won't be able to talk-the-talk & avoid an unpayable fine if a repeat of bad management is repeated this time at BB8 either.

I certainly am aware that arguing is apparent. I furthermore look at the Daily(Whatever) Newspaper & remember the (So-called New Rule Book) & as Charley is enjoying herself in her agumentative ways & (Crocodile Tears) look so believable, it is almost like (Business-As-Per-Usual) in-relation to what we are pretty much used to in past BB & CBB shows.

Bullying is a result of strong disagreements getting out of hand and 1 or 2 or more ganging up on one who is weaker minded than the rest.

Charley is arguing & giving her jaw a good excersise.

I think she is bringing some drama to the show.

I, however am not a fan. I do not hate & despise her, either for what she is doing or not doing in relation to behaving like someone who seems to have issues with many.

This creates (Drama), Drama creates (Interest).

If you are offended with that type of interest, (Remote control generally works when pointed towards TV screen)

Many enjoy the usual BB way.

Also, as I certainly observe, "Dull as dishwater" comment from thee.

What more, can one say

It is great to see that the observance of one who was so critical to CBB5 is disregarding the BB8 show at such an early stage of it's transmission.

The characters of CBB5, (No need to mention their delightful names) But, But, But, & But..............

Certainly made people watch, regardless of anything else which may offend the massive group of offendees.

I think that BB8 has more than a chance of succeeding.

I think Andy Duncan shows a certain kind of enthusiasm in the right & positive direction for a show, which will be managed carefully.

Regardless of some who wish to give up on the BB8 show so early. Unfortunately, the show will go on, as Endemol have the correct frame of mind today, to give us a show with plenty of twists & turns.

If Charley goes, another storm will come in, it usually does

CBB5 was a disgrace, thanks to certain HMs.

So far BB8 has been a total non-starter, not only for me but for a lot of other people, especially in the real world - this time I don't know anyone watching it who has in the past, they switched off after launch night, on sites such as this, we are coccooned to just how risible and pointless most people think it is this time. You can throw raw meat to the balcony if you like, but this time the theatre is a lot smaller

It won't suprise me one jot to see the ratings slip on this one.

As for not wanting to bring up the CBB5 malarkey - the first reference to it here is yours, so maybe you shouldn't have.

CBB5 was a success story in the (Financial-Pockets) Department. "Endemol" just hadn't worked it out??

Gordon Brown just happened to be in India at that time.

There were some (Waste-Of-Time-Human-Beings) burning effigies, "Regardless of where they originate", (By the Way) I have seen some English folk in Trafalgar Square in London too, among others, behave similarly

Richard Gere & Shilpa Shetty certainly agree with my way of thinking on that score.

(The Kiss, that is)
__________________________________________
I would add, that Ziggy has certainly added some spice to the BB house. Also, an argument or moan here or there, mostly from Charley is being noticed and ratings will increase by a small margin as a result.

Endemol will be more than aware, that many shows can bring in money. They are professionals in that department, you know.

If BB does not hit the sort of ratings it needs to, in order to make further shows, then it shall be axed, or something similar will be invented.

Endemol can easily have another smaller company who they can pass the reins to and suddenly, they take over a new show, with a new name & a similar theme.

Endemol's hands stay clean.

I am just suggesting something which may or may not occur in the future & nothing more. This is just business, you know.

On sites like this, (TIBB being the best), of course. Enthusiasts of BB are not as interested as you seem to be, destroying hope & dreams of the show continuing. I have been certainly more interested in pointing out the mistakes which have-been & the motivation which drove those past decisions, (Money), not to mention three poor girls.

Did I bring up CBB5, errrrr Whoops!!

It was in relation to this thread.....
