It is indeed a sad day for the english language, as "wag" has now been recognised as an official word (along with muffin top which I had never heard before today when I read the Guardian at lunch! Great word, lol)
http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/art...rc=rss&feed=10 But I have a problem with the word wag. It stands for Wives and Girlfriends and seems to have risen most prominently during the last World Cup. But is is fundamentally flawed!! A person cannot be both a wife and girlfriend (well not to the same footballer anyway!) so surely the term should be "wife or girlfriend". Only problem is the acronym of that is a word that for a long time had some pretty negative racial connotations but at least it would be grammatically correct! If I was more anal retentive, I think I would have to just email Collins Dictionary to let them know.....
