A JUDGE WITH A GRUDGE

It's that special time of year when the egomaniac judges on our favourite Saturday night reality shows launch their traditional attacks on the voting public.

Clearly outraged after X Factor hopeful Laura White's shock ejection, Simon Cowell fumed: "You weren't the worst singer." True - but irrelevant.

What counted was that millions of viewers hated her below-par performance and she didn't get enough votes to keep her out of the bottom two. And Louis Walsh was right to save Ruth Lorenzo, who smashed lacklustre Laura in the sing-off. The real controversy should centre on the unfair decision to give Diana Vickers the week off for her laryngitis.

Meanwhile, the way Strictly Come Dancing nice guy John Sergeant is being treated by Len Goodman and his pofaced posse of ballroom purists is a disgrace. Despite John's two left feet, the voters love him. And the antidemocratic panellists hate that. Barmy
