Puzzled why you still seem interested. I thought you've already dismissed it?
It was a Maru concept originally (wouldn't say no to her version of it either).
You can make a thread about Walford FC if you want to.

But wait I've just had my opinion dismissed again. If I reply to someone I'm trying to get the last word apparently.

And by someone who can't for the life of her see the hostility being discussed.

A subforum is simply somewhere to group discussion threads of a certain topic.
Tbh, I didn't come to this thread with a formed concept. I was thinking aloud. I deffo don't see it as a appreciation-type thing.
Firstly, everybody would be welcome; secondly, it would be lgbt-theme threads; thirdly, it would not be either positive or negative, but constructive, so questions and discussions yes.
I think the only difference with the rest of the forum would be that lgbt stuff would be in one place. It should be enough to encourage lgbt people posting new threads they might not be ready to post in say, SD. It may seem insignificant difference, but psychologically it should be enough for it to happen, imo.

Btw, I'm sorry if my posts gave a wrong idea at any point. The trouble with this idea is that it has to be carefully thought-out and consensual. Such subforum can and has been argued both for and against quite easy. One one hand, there's some demand for it as it turns out, not overwhelming, but it exists. It wasn't called for until Maru posted something which was originally different. On the other, non-lgbt members may easily feel they are being excluded or shunned, I get that. Tbh, I honestly don't think any lgbt person here would want that.
I used the gay pub analogy bc it seemed fair to me. But I realize now it didn't occur to me it could undermine the existing chat threads which is not what should happen. So let's call it a space for current issues/lifestyle/health etc type thing about lgbt issues

Are you talking about me? I dont see SD as any more hostile than the chat thread can be at times in a debate situation you have to be able to stand your ground which you know well you can do so I don’t get all this hostile stuff, its bs imo

It's not about standing your ground in a debate Cherie.

A debate is a debate.

When I'm told I have no right to an opinion because the topic is about a woman and I'm A man or I'm simply not a "regular" as though it has any bearing on anything I will point out that it has a negative impact on who wants to even venture into that section. That's nothing to do with debates but a problem with certain areas of the forum.

Does it happen often in the chat thread? People are told they can't post in there?

Never seen that myself and in the last 6 months a tonne of new chat regulars have been posting in there. But if you saw it happen I won't call you a liar.

there is a rule that you must first have over 100 posts before you can post in the chat thread

So?

That's a function of the forum to stop spammers and multis getting into the PRIVATE section where members share pictures etc.

Do you always know precisely what you want? And how you want it?

It was clear from the OP this wasn't a ready template, but an invitation to work with the idea.

In what way?

Like I said, within the last 6 month's especially the chat thread has seen an addition of several new regulars posters in that section and the mix of members posting in there daily changes often.

But, again, if you've seen this hostility and I haven't I won't call you a liar.

I don't go there very often, but then I do see threads about people leaving and they don't post in SD so I assume they have been in the chat thread, and no I am not a liar, I am a very honest person, too honest at times for my own good

The only places to post on the forum is SD and the chat thread?

If someone's not in SD they're in the chat thread?

That's not very convincing I'm afraid.

As Ashley pointed out, people are attacked on all aspects of life in SD. There's no need in a gay safe zone (the entire forum, threads, "gay" idioms and slang quite prove it) more than there's a need in a women safe zone or for straights (which is quite a minority here). Creating a subfolder just to escape the carnage in SD is A. not dealing with the problem and getting into a bubble; B. won't mean that the arguments won't follow to the LGBT subforum. If you're being attacked for being gay or whatever, that's what reporting and bans are for.
Gay members have posted many times about gay current affairs and their personal life alongside straight posts, and there was no hostility especially in regards to personal issues - I don't see a reason why it shouldn't keep that way or why I or other gay people should do it in a different place. I personally feel uncomfortable getting a separate subforum like I'm of a different kind and my issues are not at the same level as straight issues in just a normal "private chat forum", even if the intention is positive. So they're gay - so what? Why can't it be integrated?

I stand with Marsh on this.

You said you don't see a poster in SD so assume they venture into the chat thread, as though posters have a choice of one or the other?

well I used the chat thread loosely, as in you are using SD loosely, I don't find SD hostile, I haven't seen any member make a leaving thread after venturing in there so there is obviously hostility in other areas of the forum that are not being flagged up because its just so easy to drag SD, honestly at this stage I think I am going to petition for it's closure, its members get abused regularly even in the lovey dovey ML write up threads
