Default 762 days later... can we say the joke was on the British public?

I am not even from the UK but I gotta say that you guys kind of live in an anti-democratic country. Some would call it a tyranny but it clearly is at least anti-democratic.

I have been thinking about Brexit a lot lately. I remember staying up late watching the returns and I was so excited for the people of the UK for deciding to leave. Leave won. That was over two years ago!

If the UK public decided to stay in the EU, then the government would have done that (obviously). But since the public "decided" to leave, the government was going to drag its feet with delays and do such a crappy job negotiating that most people would want to just stay keep the status quo. All of this seems to be deliberate. The joke was on the UK public.

A cynic in the USA once said that if voting had the power to change things, then they would take that away.

This is a leaflet of what the government said:

It's a figure of speech to say the joke was on somebody. Maybe that phrase means something different in the US but it is not literally a joke. It means the British public were duped into believing the government gave a damn about doing what the public wanted to do on the EU. The plan all along was for the government to scare the public into voting to stay but when that didn't work they had to weasel their way out of the promise to do what the public wanted.

The problem with this Brexit vote is it will never truly go away because there isn't a large majority in favour of either Brexit or Remain, even within our Government it is hugely divisive and it's why May can't go anywhere with her negotiations as there's one half of the country that will have the pitch forks out for her.

Tbh for this issue to have ended properly this country needed Remain or Brexit to win with 60% or above as it would've meant that the country was more united in the decision and maybe the Tories would have also been more united? Who knows.

Maybe Donald Trump should help us with the negotiations - for the USA he got some tariff free trade, with no freedom of movement! Sounds perfect!

But yeah, the government should pull their finger out, and David Cameron preferably should have had a rough Brexit plan for "just in case", and should not have resigned.

I dont get that at all because the majority of the more vocal leave campaigners were the countries more popular mps at the time...so why would a government send out its popular mps if they wanted to influence people to stay?

So unnecessary Liberty, not every on here has English as first language, or has perfect English writing, if you were asked to make your views known in a language other than English I would imagine you would struggle too, Lime does a great job and it's not difficult to seer her point

tbf Boris only plumped for leave as a last minute decision, and I believe he was the reason that leave won, Michael Gove wasn't particularly popular or Nige...

I'm not seeing anything new to discuss in this thread that couldnt just be posted in the numerous other threads relating to brexit, infact I actually see it as an attempt at trolling for reactions so I'm closing this.
