Default CHILDREN IN NEED

FROM TODAY'S DAILY RECORD

CHILDREN IN NEED HITS THE SCREENS WITH BIG BROTHER STARS : SHELL OUT FOR KIDS Nov 19 2004

Housemate pitches in to help abused kids to cope

By Paul English

LOVE them or loathe them, there's been no escaping the Big Brother housemates over the years. And tonight, as they get together for Children in Need in Scotland, fans and foes will be hoping that Cameron,Shell, Fed and Jason will swap the diary room for the gunge tank in a bid to raise cash for the annual BBC charity bash.

They'll join Jackie Bird and Darius in Glasgow, while Gail Porter brings live music from Stirling Castle with Travis, Snow Patrol and Natasha Bedingfield. Here we meet the former Big Brother housemates to ask about life on the outside ...

SHELL

SEXY Shell Jubin may be best known for flashing her white bits in the Big Brother House and a series of raunchy photoshoots. But there's more substance to the 22year-old Scot than your average 'glamour model'.

Gorgeous Shell, who lives in Glasgow, said she only went into Big Brother to make enough money for her family.

But as well as a series of revealing - and lucrative - photoshoots, Shell's hit the headlines for other reasons after it emerged that she grew up surrounded by domestic abuse.

Now she's about to use her burgeoning profile to help children who know the trauma of living in a violent home.

Shell said: 'I'm going to be helping out with the Scottish Executive's Listen Louder campaign, because I think it's important to help others in the situation I was in.

'I'll be visiting projects which have been set up for kids whose families have been touched by domestic abuse. It's really satisfying to do this sort of thing.'

Once the modelling work dries up - which she thinks it might in around six months - Shell's determined to continue her studies.

She famously received news of her first class honours degree from Glasgow University while in the house.

'I'm going to do a PhD in History of Architecture and hopefully have a career in academia,' she said.

Shell's delighted to be meeting up with other BB housemates Fed, Jason and Cameron. She said: 'I expect we all will. There's noway you're going to get four Big Brother contestants in the same place and not gunge them for charity. I'm delighted to be taking part.'

And she'd beup for going back into the house if the chance came round for a Big Brother greatest hits. 'I don't see why not,' she said. 'It would be great fun.'

CAMERON

BIG Brother winner Cameron Stout always said he'd be happy to go back to his old life as a fish trader. But the man everyone loves to love simply hasn't had the chance.

'It's been hectic, but it's been incredible,' said the 32-year-old, who won Big Brother 4.

Cameron's set for panto in Aberdeen, as Snow White's Prince Charming after appearing in Peter Pan last year.

He's also been a Radio Scotland regular, a presenter on BBC Scotland's Teen Commandments series, and has even taken part in a pioneering nine-week diet trial, which saw him shed two stone. And tonight - well, tonight he's determined he's the man pulling the gunge chain.

But despite waving ta-ta to his life as a globe-trotting trader, and being clocked everywhere from London to Glasgow, he'd love to give the BBHouse another visit.

He said: 'People on the Big Brother website talk about how much they'd love to see a Big Brother Gold or a Big Brother International. I'd certainly be interested in taking part in something like that.

'One of the main reasons would be to meet the other Big Brother folk, and find out what make some of the ones I don't know tick. Tonight should be great fun.

'But I want to make sure I'm the one pulling the chain.'

After the panto, Cameron's determined to take his wee brother, presenter Julyan Sinclair, on holiday.

'Julyan took me to New York for my 30th birthday. He turned 30 this year and I've been trying to return the compliment, but we never managed to get time off together. Hopefully we'll go to Cuba in the spring.'

FEDERICO

BIG Brother 3 star Federico Martone feels he's in line for the gunge machine tonight.

The Glaswegian says he's bound to get splattered with the slimy stuff ahead of the other housemates.

He said: 'One of us will be getting gunged - so I reckon I'll be a prime contender for it. Usually I'm getting gunged in some way on a Friday night.

'Children in Need is an institution as far as charitable events go. It's very worthy as kids are our future. It's the first time I've actually been involved, although I have made donations.'

Since Fed left the BB brother house he's written a Big Brother column for the Daily Record, appeared on television, and appeared as a guest DJ on Beat 106 .
