Default Heartbreak for Amy Winehouse as husband faces Christmas in jail

Heartbreak for Amy Winehouse as husband faces Christmas in jail
Heartbroken Amy Winehouse watch on as a judge announced her husband would remain behind bars until after Christmas during a court hearing today.

As Blake Fielder-Civil stood to return to the court cells, he put his hand against the side of his face and mouthed to his wife: "I'll phone you baby."

The performer, who was close to tears, replied with an "I love you" and then blew him a couple of kisses.

The judge said: "He will be remanded in custody on both matters until January 18."

He added the trial of all four men had been pencilled in for June 23, 2008.

Throughout much of the hearing, the performer, sporting her trademark beehive hairstyle decorated with a yellow-patterned ribbon and wearing a black short-sleeved mini-dress, gazed adoringly at her 25-year-old husband as he sat behind the glass-fronted dock.

His mother Georgette, just a seat away from her daughter-in-law, smiled repeatedly at her son, who is being held in custody.

The 25-year-old, of Jeffrey's Place, Camden, north London, who at one point took off his black jacket to reveal heavily-tattooed arms, is said to have offered licensee James King a significant amount of money to withdraw an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm against him and to leave the country.

He and co-defendant Michael Brown, 25, of Durand Close, Carshalton, Surrey, who also denies the GBH allegation, allegedly carried out the attack on June 20 last year.

They had been due to stand trial last Monday but the case was adjourned after police accused them of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The pair appeared in court with a third man, Anthony Kelly, 25, of Constable House, Chalk Farm, north London, who is also said to have been part of the plot.

So too is King, 36, of The White House, Risley Hall, Risley, Derbyshire, landlord of the Macbeths public house in Hoxton, east London.

But his preliminary hearing was held before the others, following an application by his barrister.

Fielder-Civil's counsel Arlette Piercy applied for her client to be released pending a new trial date some time next year.

That part of the hearing was being held "in chambers".

All four men are due back in court for a plea and directions hearing on January 18.
