Freddy is easy for the most part, especially if you have self care. If you fail a skill check you'll wake up.

Once you realise that it takes ages for him to pull you into the dream world and that he can't do anything to you until you're in then he becomes way less threatening.

Like, he can't actually stop people from unhooking other survivors because they'll be there and gone before he can grab them.

He's intimidating until you realise how weak he actually is and then you just feel sorry for him.

Yeah I agree, i'm only just getting use to playing him but most times everyone or nearly everyone escapes i use noed (No One Escapes Death) with Freddy to help him.
