Hope they get them... they probably won't get much punishment though... sent on safari or something.

When it happens and when the police are sweeping for fingerprints and stuff like that, it makes you think why don't we have something like a national database for fingerprints that they could check. I know people would say it wouldn't be good for civil liberties etc, but still...

A home alarm is a good thing to have but when you switch them on at night you have to remember to disarm it before you go back into the room! Another thing you can do is write your postcode and house number on your stuff with a UV pen then the police can return it to you if they recover it.

That is actually a myth. Yes they are more delicate that an old style CRT tv, but touching the screen will do absolutely no damage what so ever.
Oh interesting, the shop I got it from was adamant that I shouldn't touch it. He also said it must stay upwards at all time, any idea if thats true/false too? (for when I do have to move it)

Mark thats just awful, twice this year.

When someone breaks into your home it is such a violation of your right to feel safe. I do hope they catch the little git who did this.

I cant belive you were all in the house, you were so lucky you did not stumble across them.

As for when you go home, hide or store your stuff, like you say they now know what you have.

Mark, I am afraid the shop is wrong. But if you are picking it up you should use the edges. Saying that, if you can get away with not touching the screen then you will never need to clean fingerprints off it.

With regards to transporting it. Yes, it should be upright. The reason for this is that the screen is two pieces of very thin glass, one of them is etched to create cells that are coated with phosphor. The glass is then sandwiched together. If you lay the screen flat this will not cause damage. But if you were to bounce the screen whilst it is flat, speed hump, pothole or the like then the screen could bow as the centre has nothing to support it. This could damage the cell structure leading to dead pixels.

Any news from the police?

Hey,

Had a call from the police today and they arrested a guy who they have strong suspicion to have robbed my house. When they asked him if he robbed the 3 houses that got done around this area, he refused to answer with a lawyer lol. The policeman told me this means hes pretty much guilty.

They raided his house and found lots of stolen merchandise, but not my stuff - so they are assuming it got immediately sold on.

It's a shame that I won't get it back (insurance is paying 3/4 of the value of my stuff, so all's not lost). It's reassuring this guy is likely going to jail though, people like him need to be off the streets

Glad to hear that the police have had their fingers out and caught someone for this. You might not have got your things back but it is satisfying to know he will be punished.

That is really good to know! It is a shame you haven't got your stuff back, but things could have been worse - and luckily you do get money off insurance. I completely agree that people like that need to be off the streets... the things some people do these days...
