Default Jungle lovers quizzed after photographer showdown

Jungle lovers quizzed after photographer showdown
I’M A Celeb star Marc Bannerman has been questioned by police following a run in with a photographer in Wales.

The former EastEnders actor has spent the past few days cosying up to jungle lover Cerys Matthews at her parents’ farmhouse just outside Trefin, Pembrokeshire.

The pair have been followed by the paparazzi since Marc arrived in West Wales last Wednesday.

But last night it emerged that Bannerman had been questioned by Dyfed Powys Police following an alleged incident involving a photographer, believed to be from the international photo agency Big Pictures.

Bannerman, 34, is said to have vented his frustration after a snapper tracked the couple down to the Ship Inn in Trefin where they were having a meal with a friend.

One photographer who witnessed the incident said Bannerman was upset they had been followed.

He claimed: “One of the snappers got a photo of Cerys and Marc in the pub and then he got back into his car.

“But then Marc and a male friend of theirs came out of the pub, opened the door to the photographer’s car and started pulling his camera away from him. They were very persistent.

“Marc eventually got hold of one of his cameras and took it back into the pub with him. He then took the memory card out of the camera. Then the friend came back outside and gave the camera back without the memory card in it.

“Marc and Cerys obviously didn’t want the photos of them getting out.”

Marc and Cerys, who were in Wales shooting photos for an exclusive glossy magazine deal, then tried to leave the pub.

But a photographer is said to have blocked the couple from leaving the car park by parking his van in front of them in an attempt to retrieve his memory card.

The eyewitness went on to claim: “Cerys dived into the back of the friend’s car, and Marc got in the front seat. But the photographer had boxed them in and they couldn’t get out.

“Marc got out of the car and tried to talk to the photographer, but he wouldn’t move out of the way.”

The couple then went back into the pub and Cerys was driven away by the pub’s owner Muriel Murphy, who is a friend of the singer.

The eyewitness claimed: “They went back into the pub, and came back out separately and got driven off in two different cars that weren’t blocked in. The photographer then called the police and they turned up at the pub and took down the details about what had happened and also took down witness statements from the other photographers that were there.”

Pub owner Muriel, 34, told Wales on Sunday that Cerys was distressed as she drove her to a secret location where she later met up with Bannerman.

She said: “As we drove away, Cerys was saying that she could understand what the Royal family and other famous people have been through.

“They had a great time in the pub and it was ruined when they tried to leave because there were about 15 photographers who wouldn’t let them out.

“She just doesn’t know why she can’t be left alone. She’s done loads of interviews where she’s been really honest.

“All she wanted was to have a quiet meal by the fire in her home village. They weren’t doing anything wrong – it was the photographers doing wrong. It was a shame because it spoilt a good day for them.”

Last night Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that they were investigating an incident.

Police visited Cerys home late on Friday afternoon where they stayed for around 10 minutes. It is understood they questioned Marc and Cerys’ brother, Richard, although it is not clear whether Cerys herself was quizzed.

A police spokesperson said: “Dyfed Powys Police are investigating an alleged incident that occurred between a male and persons outside a licensed premises in Trefin, Pembrokeshire, at approximately 2.45pm on Friday.

“Any witnesses are asked to contact Fishguard police station on 0845 3302000.”
Marc Bannerman’s agent was unavailable for comment last night. Big Pictures declined to comment.
