I think politicians often just say things like this to try and gain popularity with the younger voters. While retaining any support from older voters because it was so long ago so why be concerned now.

I think this too tbh, I see no real reason why he'd bring it up otherwise apart from wanting to appear more 'normal'

...also the media tend to ‘dig up’ these things...there always seems to be someone willing to give an exclusive of uni days or whatever.....so to prevent that by making it known yourself is quite a wise thing to do I feel...
