Default Baby born in prison cell dies

What kind of country are we becoming when this is allowed to happen?

'Police are investigating the death of a baby in Britain’s largest female prison after an inmate gave birth alone in her cell at night.

The Guardian understands that the woman, who had been at an advanced stage of pregnancy, gave birth alone in her cell in the early hours of Friday last week. A source with knowledge of the events said that when prison staff visited the woman’s cell on Friday morning the baby was unresponsive.'

4 women have died in the prison since 2016, private prison so staffing will as close to the bone as possible, minimal training, low pay, and more than likely staffed by some who have no motivation or interest and managed by some incompetent

Yes its sad
I assume the staff were so busy.

It's disgusting, she should at least have been in the hospital wing and have a least one officer with her,I can't see any excuse for this at all , surely they have a bell to ring if they need help, was it ignored, maybe there is more to the story, but poor baby and mom.

Jesus.

The only way this would be even understandable would be if she was so horribly obese she didn't know she was reggers, but even then she'd have made a racket once things started, so the guards should have looked in.

Shocking this could happen.

There's still a lot wrong with prisons.
No, they shouldn't be holiday camps but should be on issues like this, far safer.
Tragic for the loss of life of the baby.

Yeah, prisons should never be privately owned because it turns prisoners into a commodity. The US has a huge problem with imprisonment because sticking people in prison turns a profit for those who own those prisons. Private prisons should not exist, they should be state-run.

The people in charge of this prison must be held responsible for their gross negligence as they have a duty of care to the prisoners and their lack of action has led to a loss of life of an innocent child and the trauma of losing that child for the mother. Unforgivable.

Totally agree the deregulation of these privately run facilities are the biggest issue they are not held to the same standards as publicly owned. That goes for prisons, hospitals, care homes, schools... That needs to change.
