I'm going to see Joker tomorrow. The reviews have got me intrigued.

The reactions from the public on Twitter are completely positive as far as I can see. They can’t believe what they’ve watched in most cases, a gritty, completely disturbing, Oscar-worthy masterpiece.

It's criminal how he hasn't won a Best Actor Oscar yet. I mean, I thought Walk the Line would have done it for him easily he was incredible in that! Hopefully this is his year.

He lost to Philip Seymour Hoffman's Capote that year, who had an equally amazing performance. Their performances, along with Heath Ledger's performance in Brokeback Mountain, makes 2005 one of the strongest Best Actor line-ups ever!

All three of them would've made worthy winners.

I mean box office is meaningless if people just prefer Ledger's joker.

This was fantastic, dark and gripping the entire way through, Joaquin Phoenix did a fantastic job of watching a man go insane, the last thirty minutes had me on edge.

I like Jack Nicholson version of the joker as well. He's just fantastic.

I thought it was fine, a 7 out of 10.

I feel the Internet hype and clickbait culture has let it down - many film critics have gone into it thinking it is politically dangerous, which it isn't - if any viewer finds the main character to be inspirational then they are as deluded as him. Many comic-book fans have gone in expecting a all-time great film.

It is basically a story of a very damaged man, that loses complete touch with reality, loses empathy, and does terrible things to others. It is a fairly slight story really, although I think the plot works quite well.

When you compare it to the films it emulates - like Taxi Driver - I don't think it is as good as those. Taxi Driver was more powerful because in that film Travis Bickle is an almost ordinary man that takes extreme actions, whereas Arthur in Joker is mentally ill from the start.

Thinking about it later an idea I took out of it was how mobs and revolutionaries can too easily come to believe a person represents something that person really isn't.

Spoiler:

When Arthur kills the three wealthy men on the train, it is in self-defence (although that is borderline) and because of his previous treatment. The press, however, reports that they got killed because they are rich, which contributes to the crowds starting to treat the clown figure as a hero. Which is totally wrong of course because he doesn't have any political view or philosophy and is actually a psychopath.

Another thing I thought when watching was the trailers showed a lot of the film, without giving away the plot necessarily.

A lot of it is well done - like the last 30 minutes is very tense. It certainly stayed in my mind for a while after watching it.

Oh, and by the way, there was one song-choice I was quite taken aback to hear used - it's as if the film-makers didn't know what they were using there.

Political dangerous Why, because it's a straight White man being a hero, and beating people up? Who's been saying it's Politically dangerous? I bet I know the types, The MSM of the left?

There were news stories about how it would inspire 'incels' to violence.

The film isn't like that at all though. Having watched that documentary that was posted on here, there's only one very small part of the film that those people could take something from.
