Norwich saved... I don't mind Debenhams. Although while everyone's blaming the Internet for the decline of the High Street, the last time I went to Norwich for lunch and an afternoon of shopping, it cost me £12 to park.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's a pretty logical major obstacle to most people's shopping habits, yes. Stay at home and have it delivered, or pay extortionate parking costs (often in a building that looks dodgy af)?

It is if you ignore the congestion, the space required to actually park, the pollution, the security needed to protect vehicles from crime, the risk to the general public from the weight of the traffic and the already purposed public transport system Shaun.
£12 for a full days parking is reasonable. You are contributing to all the aspects listed above remember?

...I think ultimately, high street shops can’t compete with internet prices... book store prices for instance, can’t match what those books can be sold for on Amazon..the cost of premises rental in town centres is very high...and as Shaun said, there’s the convenience of delivery as well ...on the internet, things are just a click away...I wonder what the faces of town centres will be in the future as there are less and less retail outlets...We’ve had many coffee shops and restaurants closing down as well, as they can’t sustain...less people shopping/less people having coffees and lunches etc...maybe the buildings will eventually all become private housing...The future of town centre living may be much more affordable, without the ‘convenience’ of town centre facilities...

Yep don't support your local high street folks unless they offer free parking obv...
More job losses should have been the first thought but clearly not, I feel a pang of guilt I ordered a couple of gifts online from debenhams, should have gone to store. For me online shopping is more stressful! Will it come, will it be damaged, will it be the right thing, will it fit, will I be in, will it come on time? ...

Same in Norwich. Quite a few of the businesses open their car parks for charity at Christmas and charge a couple of quid and you have to get there early because the place is heaving... which I imagine is the same as hoaching? It must be worse if you're on a limited income and you've already paid for your car, your insurance, your road tax, maintenance etc. then you go into Norwich to buy something and instead of struggling home with it on the bus - assuming you live on a bus route of which there are few in Norfolk - or pay £12 to park your car for a few hours.
