Italy is doing great at the moment and I'm so happy.
We'll get there in the UK, we just need more time.
But things will get better. We just need to hang in there.

well if you compare 5 million to 55 million, England is doing fine considering it opened up weeks ago, and Scotland are pretty much still locked down

you are locked down, if everywhere was locked down it would be zero too how many more jobs would be lost? plus we have had this convo before you just don't have the density of city in Scotland and much more rural spaces, if you compare yourself to a similar size country with similar size population for instance the Republic you have about 700 more deaths and they are open! are your non essential shops open yet ?

It's not a brag, it's pointing out that the possibility of a 2nd wave in England is not a reason to shut down "The UK" if the numbers in Scotland are different. The reasons for the difference aren't really revelant.

Yes . Me and LT are even going on holiday next week. Not together .

I do enjoy that your main argument is based on the incorrect assumption that Scotland is still on full lockdown, though.

By the way the current German R number is back to 0.63 of course it’s important to take things seriously but I think the press do a lot of scaremongering.

Needless to say I think it’s a terrible idea for the government to not ban travel from Leicester. Not surprised however, they always say “we will rely on the great british public” when that hasn’t helped so far.

Didn't they just open yesterday?

There's been a staggered reopening like anywhere else but I've been having McDonalds, Starbucks and trips to the beach for weeks . Like I said it's not about top trumps, the whole UK was a ****-show at the start and I've been consistently worried about the economic fallout and still am. However, I think England slammed the breaks literally a couple of short weeks too early and if they had held their resolve a little longer, would be much closer to the very low levels needed for track & trace, and would not be at this risk of localised surges.

Opening the doors two weeks prematurely will have saved very few jobs, if any. Whilst keeping case numbers higher than they need to be. It's literally the worst of both worlds; the best thing for the economy and worst for infection rates would have been to open far earlier. The best thing for ingfection rates would have been to hold off just a LITTLE longer. It's like pulling your pizza out of the oven a few minutes too early because you're scared it's going to burn, only to find out that some of the cheese isn't quite melted yet and it's going to go cold before you can eat it.

Lockdown was gone so it was pointless, I think they did the right thing in opening up, it was a balance between, health, economy and civil unrest at that stage, the lockdown in Leicester is timely as it will pull make people refocus on what they have to continue to do

The suggestion is the usual numpties won’t stay confined... they will keep travelling out of the area to go shopping / sightseeing / whatever ..

It wasn't gone, it was being broken by a certain percentage of the population (just like everywhere else that has had lockdown, including Scotland). Where's the logic in the argument that "Oh well, 30% of people aren't doing lockdown anyway so let's just tell 100% of people to head back out"? Even 50% or less compliance to lockdown would have more of an effect than zero lockdown.

Exactly arista.

All some seem to want is all opened up.
To blazes with the vulnerable sick and elderly.

Has this government not lost enough sick and elderly to satisfy yet.
Certainly have in my view.
Thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Yet it's fine to take more dangerous risks in some people's minds it seems anyway.

It would help, in my view, if we were told the true actual numbers across the board on anything for starters.
Instead of the deceit flooded out daily.
