Yes the pubs around me have all been very creative in responding to the new restrictions and have laid out numerous measures to keep things safe. In my county the number of cases is down to almost 1 in every 200,000 people so the risk is not a big one. I've worked throughout the lockdown when the risk was much higher so I'm not going to be too worried about the pub

I doubt the majority of the people going for a pint this weekend will even consider that it's a political statement lol

I’m probably not gonna go to one straight away as I can imagine they’ll be very busy but after maybe a month (or maybe longer tbh) I’ll go back to one.

...yeah I’ve worked throughout also, so I wouldn’t have any concerns as such as restrictions will be there...although I don’t have any plans to go, I’m not a pub person...enjoy your pint, though....

Seems a silly Political statement to make about this topic. Most people just want to have a pint/drink and relax, I can’t wait

I know. It’s almost as if a pub is the only place to have a drink and relax during an ongoing pandemic. Don’t you have a home you can drink in?

Drinking on my own in a flat is not the same as a pub. People enjoy the social aspect of drinking in the pub and the different variety of drinks and the service. The government have opened the pubs people are just following the guidelines. That’s like saying why go for a run / walk during the pandemic when you have a garden

I think the point is that the same people using the protests as a way of hounding people for not adhering to social distancing and constantly explaining the 'risks' they are taking will no doubt be in the pub come Saturday, ironically complaining about the protests while brushing past tens of people on their way to the bathroom/to the bar.

Of course this is an exaggerated example but I believe that was Glenn's logic. It's not a political statement, just an example of the hypocrisy that will probably occur.

This seems to be a never ending cycle because I’m sure many attending protests were complaining about the beaches / tubes / traffic a few days/weeks before also. Smithy/Glenn’s comments just seem to be making everything tik for tac and political for little reason

I think most would probably agree though that protesting for equality is a fairer reason to break social distancing rules than going to the beach, or to the pub. Plus, most attending these protests did adhere to the rules and wore face-masks. Sadly though, it was minority of protests that clearly broke these rules and descended into chaos that made the papers, in the same way that the same image of the same beach was reported on several times by the media.

In conclusion, **** the media for making us all despise one another I guess?

i think they have shown both here and in america that the protests did not increase the numbers of infected. In America, the major contributor to infection increase was people indoors in bars not social distancing properly, so much so that states have now closed the bars down again. You would have thought the government here would have taken note of that, but no ... we are pushing ahead opening up bars. I hope I'm not saying told you so in a couple of weeks time

I'm not sure when they're re-opening around here but when they do I'll most likely wait until after a few weeks at least. Let the others be the guinea pigs

That said, I'll be at a little house party thing tomorrow for pre 4th of July & that's prob just as bad for potential corona spreading oop.
