I agree with that - I'd much rather see a push for better pay and working conditions permanently than a one-off cash bonus.

Oh I absolutely agree that the companies who actually did quite well out of the whole thing should be paying profit-related bonuses to all of their staff. Supermarket workers, Amazon warehouse staff, etc. should be getting a share of the covid pie.

Sadly we all know that the biggest bonuses, as usual, will go to senior management and executives.

As far as the NHS is concerned they should be paid a salary reflecting their worth in the first place, something successive governments have failed to do.

of course Essential workers deserve bonusses

i'd also say give some a medal especially those who had been in frontline, at NHS for example in UK, other hospital workers in other countries too

no here in Netherlands they decided to give one comedian (she is on our radio every saturday, i mean she does not deserve a medal, since i find her quite hypocrite, for example she tells people ''stay home'' and she herself just goes to every store she can find, even has her own theatre shows again, above 140 people (which exceeds 100 people limit) but she is allowed bc miss is seen as a hero)

my point is if she gets a medal, praise, then the real essential workers also do deserve something, some bonus, praise, respect by the people

I agree, the salaries that trained nurses for example are paid are a joke compared to other countries. The US is the most striking example, in California an experienced nurse will be getting 6-figures ($110k average) . Though that's because they're employed privately/the US insurange model fleecing everyone, so not the best example. Still, several places in Europe it's around 60,000 euros for an experience level where an NHS nurse will be on £30 - 40k. Better paid in Australia, NZ... pretty much every 1st-world country.
