Default Big Brother USA Cast, Crew To Quarantine. Template For UK Ch.4 BB Return?

It looks as if the new season of US BB is happening, with both houseguests and crew quarantined in a bubble type environment, with staffers living in RVs on site and shifting out monthly. Besides this report from the usually reputable TMZ, a former Survivor producer accidentally tweeted today that he started his job as a BB USA producer. The tweet was quickly deleted but not before seemingly further confirming the new season. It is presumed host Julie Chen will be Zooming in to present her live shows.

https://www.tmz.com/2020/07/17/big-b...ble-like-cast/

Now that there seems to be a recipe for how to do this, maybe serious talks will get underway for Ch.4 to present a new season of CBB in January, possibly with a civilian version to follow. It seems more plausible than ever because a show like BB if filmed in this environment is actually one of the safest bets because everyone is quarantined together with no one having contact with or coming in from the outside world. Now that Baniijay/Endemol has a game plan for how to do it, I think they can make a strong pitch in the UK during a time when networks are searching for programming to fill the production void, and viewers would welcome the nostalgia from a happier time.

And where would they film it considering there’s no house? Just because another country can run a BB, doesn’t mean ours is automatically renewed. Unfortunately it’s gone, and it’ll be awhile before it’s back.

The "but theres no house" was such a predictible naysayer response I almost adressed it initially. No one said anything about being "automatically renewed" either lol. So weird how people twist a post into saying what they want to respond to rather than reading what it actually says.

They would build a house dear, it is something that is done. Australia's house had burned down and guess what? They built a new one. Thats how houses work.

Its so easy to doubt. Taking the role of the doubter is such a lazy, pedestrian move. The vast majority of people on US bb boards and forums said for the past few months there would never be a season, they cant do this they cant do that, its simply imposssible blah blah blah. Well looks like they did it. Who is to say what and how fast someone can or can't do something if they are focused and determined!

They can do a season because they have a house, a host, a crew, already had 6 months of casting underway etc. We literally have nothing.

BBUS still might not happen as nothing has been confirmed.. corona is getting worse in the usa so it can easily be delayed.

It was starting to fall apart.

That said, they could always do what a few international series have done and gone for an apartment/villa that's ready to go rather than a purpose built house.

Exactly. There are tons of possibilities. Who knows if it will actually happen. But its plausible. There's a huge amount of energy and determination to have a US season on the part of Endemol/Banijay and CBS because they know it will be huge largely because of the covid angle, and will fill a big programming void left by the pandemic.

We know Endemol would also move mountains for BB to return in UK, the question is how eager would Ch. 4 be to partner up. They do need programmes now more than ever and the publicity for a new BB would be huge right now given the context in which it would air. The timing is perfect its really more a question of whether the execs at 4 are eager enough. There's no question Best Shows Ever was testing the waters.

I of course agree Best Shows Ever was testing the waters, but tbh I don’t think C4 are seeing it as a success. The ratings probably aren’t enough for them to renew it. It’s a huge show and quite expensive, I don’t think 700k is enough for them to renew at this moment.

Yes that is a big wild card, how does Ch.4 view the performance of Best Ever? Do they feel that the fact that over a million people tuned to E4 for some episodes indicates significant interest or do they view the ultimate dropoff in viewership as an indication the same would occur in the case of a new series?

I think it was successful because at the end of the day what we're really talking about is how many people watched dressed up old BB repeats on E4 over 2 weeks in random order, and the answer is "a lot". Shows a good amount of hardcore fans are still out there.

That's because BBUS still exists. BBUK does not. Putting social distancing guidelines in place on an existing show is easy. Setting up a show from scratch that was cancelled less than two years ago during these times is not going to happen.

There's plenty of empty buildings in the UK.

BBUK needs a good five / ten years rest. If you want it to actually be successful again. CBB maybe earlier? I feel like if they were to reboot it they would start with CBB for a few years only and then bring civilian back if there’s demand. The German BB did the same.

CBB can be earlier, given that one was also still running in Germany while civilian had a rest there, and now they are doing both for first time

CBB was still a decent "hit" in the UK, it was the civilian that really tanked. Endemol consistently (and understandably) refused to accept deals from 5 that only included CBB. But now I believe they would be open to it as a backdoor to a potential return for BB, especially if they feel they have the good faith support of a channel that actually welcomes them and wants them to to succeed. Ultimately BB operates on economies of scale, so an E4 civilian on the main channel with one CBB annually on Ch4 and complementary spinoffs both on E4 would be the ideal goal. The second annual CBB on C5 proved to be greedy overkill and diluted the cache of the series as a whole.

One other thing about the house, the current reality means the rebuilding of a new "house" would not currently need an entire audience and stage area built around it , which made things much more costly and complicated. A more studioesque, soundstage-like UK environment would be simpler and faster to pull off. At one point in the US, producers were seriously considering moving BB to the US Love Island set and shooting it there. There are loads of options if the motivation is there.

If it comes back next year I give it 3 series at the most before it is axed again. Give it the break it needs and deserves, give people time to miss it.

Lmao that was only ever speculation, in reality it would never happen. Their whole production relies on huge competitions, secret conversations etc so a series of Big Brother held in an open plan Fiji Villa with limited set-space would be a disaster. There’d be no way to set up and build the comps, that can take days to do, without the crew having to interact with the cast.

Some people just have no imagination. They only look at things as they have been, rather than seeing that challenges and changes can be opportunities, and that sometimes the adjustments inspired by a new set of circumstances will often spark new and exciting creativity and change rather than staying stuck in the past with old, outdated ideas.

"But how would they do (insert old idea/method/circumstance/policy) again?" they cry, "Impossible!". Perhaps they're narrowly correct, but instead of X they can do Y or Z, which the naysayers cant even imagine or comprehend, at least until later when they actually see it or it is done. These are the followers of the world, thank God there are leaders who think outside the box and create ideas!
