Arrow Corrie to air timeskip next week

Coronation Street will reference COVID-19 on screen for the first time next week.

The show's bosses have decided to start mentioning the coronavirus pandemic now that cast and crew have returned to work following the UK lockdown.

In recent days, Corrie has been airing episodes which were partly filmed in March before the lockdown and partly filmed after production resumed in June.

These "half and half" episodes have led to some continuity issues, with cast members looking noticeably different within the same episodes.

On Friday, July 24, Corrie will screen the first episode fully filmed after the lockdown. This coincides with the virus being referenced on screen for the first time.

Spoiler pictures from this episode show Gary Windass at The Kabin with Brian Packham, with the local shop set up for social distancing.

Arrows illustrate a one-way system in the shop, while a sign reminds customers to stay behind a red line at the counter to protect the staff.

Adam Barlow and Imran Habeeb's solicitors firm also has a sign up which warns visitors about new safety measures.

It reads: "This office is observing social distancing rules. Appointments in person are strictly by prior appointment only. Do not enter if you are unwell.

"If the office is busy, we may ask you to wait outside until the previous client has left."

Coronation Street will also be exploring how Aggie Bailey's job at the hospital has put her on the front line during the pandemic.

Aggie's husband Ed is seen planning something nice for her, worried that she has been working too hard and needs a break.

Speaking last month, Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that the show would jump forward in time from the July 24 episode.

He told Digital Spy and other media: "In episodes from July 24, they are the first ones where they acknowledge the pandemic there. It's just like the flip of a switch.

"I think the audience understands and will go with it. Very quickly, we're into a post pandemic world and I am sure there will be continuity comments but we have a mature audience who will understand."

Aw that explains why Nick’s hair changed colour to grey half way through the ep last night and then reverted back to the dyed colour before the ep finished

It was bizarre as it was short, then long, then short again

Yeah I think we have to be forgiving with those sort of continuity errors
I'm interested to see how Corrie (And EastEnders when it comes back) deals with the pandemic. I think a time leap is the only logical move tbh. There's literally no way they can make the show without referencing the pandemic because there's already moments that feel unnatural without the explanation - the scene between Nick and Leanne the other day when she was crying felt very odd when you'd expect Nick to hug her and he just sort of hovered behind the counter to keep his distance.

I think it worked relatively well. I screamed at Brian spraying Gary’s money with disinfectant

I think they hammed it up a bit...with all the mentions of wildlife knocking about in the first 5 mins, an otter, ducks and foxes...the rest was ok.

I think they put it across quite a bit in this episode to establish it was now definately a thing

They should start the timeskip with a cast melody of the timewarp up and down the street.
I've not seen the rocky horror show so im not sure if the reference really works.
But it would be fun.
