I think in this instance groupthink is a good thing, to have many people focussed on the importance of the future outcome. The logic and reasoning based on sound scientific fact it's hard to disagree with any of their goals.

Any anti establishment body is going to be mocked and ridiculed but it's for the greater good, progress was never made sitting on your hands was it?

We don't have a 'free press' and it gets less free by the day, sometimes that just has to be made screaming obvious.

It's always amusing when E/R uses the medium of modern dance to express their concerns.

They're not violent or terrorists tbh, more roads should be blocked.

But the dance thing is pretty embarrassing.

Essex Police make more arrests over fuel protests

[More than 20 climate protesters have
arrived at Exolum Storage in Grays
and have positioned themselves
in a dangerous location, Essex Police said.

Officers have made 338 arrests in total
following protests at oil terminals.
The activists want the government to
halt new oil and gas projects.
The force's Assistant Chief Constable
Glen Pavelin said the protests were
"exceptionally dangerous" because of
where the group had "located themselves
within the site".
He said officers were in the process of making
a further 26 arrests.
Activists from Just Stop Oil and
Extinction Rebellion have been
blocking access to
oil terminals since 1 April.]

He could get a job, like I did... like most people do to keep eating when they're students. But I guess he doesn't have time for that.

[Eco mob force Lloyd's of London to CLOSE its HQ
as dozens of protestors dressed as rats and cleaners
block all 25 entrances and scale outside of
building to unfurl 'end fossil fuels' banner
Extinction Rebellion protesters descended on
the insurance giant's London HQ in the
City early this morning
Sixty activists blocked entrances to the
building using superglue, chains and
bike locks, and unfurled banners

They're demanding Lloyd's stops insuring
fossil fuel projects world wide,
including an oil pipeline in Canada
Lloyd's says it has closed its offices
today but it remains open and is
trading using 'our remote capabilities'
It comes almost a year after
the eco-activist group dumped
a truck full of fake coal outside the building]

The only way to move away from oil, gas and coal is to temporarily embrace nuclear. That's the long and short of it that it seems no one wants to hear. A full transition to renewables is completely possible, but it's going to take a lot longer than when the apparent "climate dealine" is. There are literally three options (assuming the climate catastrophe is indeed inevitable);

1) Embrace nuclear in the meantime, starting building that infrastructure right now, once we can meet all of our energy demands via nuclear (including transitioning all vehicles to electric), start on the renewables infrastructure.
2) Stop using energy (note: most people die)
3) Keep burning fossil fuels that are becoming increasingly scarce and also apparently killing the planet (notes: either climate catastrophe happens and everyone dies, or they inevitably simply run out, leading back to option 2)

And yet when they announced a new nuclear project, no one liked that option either.

as long as it goes in the right direction, the planet will rectify itself one way or another. It might mean a drastic population reduction, but if that happens, there will be much less pollution and it goes back to a survivable climate, with lessons learned hopefully

A judge told of how he was "inspired" by Insulate Britain protesters as he fined some for holding a demonstration on the M25.

The group blocked traffic, including an ambulance with a patient, by sitting at junction 3 near Swanley, Kent.

Some activists glued themselves to the Tarmac, while another stuck himself to a police car on 29 September.

Some of the demonstrators appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, while others pleaded guilty by post.

Three protesters, Ian Bates, 63, from Northampton, Karen Matthews, 60, and 54-year-old Biff Whipster from Canterbury, Kent, were told by District Judge Stephen Leake they had "inspired" him after making speeches about their climate concerns while representing themselves.

But the judge added his role was to "apply the law" and said their actions had caused "significant disruption" to the motorway.
