Coronavirus: W.H.O. warns Europe over
'very serious' Covid surge [Hans Kluge said in the past two weeks the number of new cases had doubled in more than half of European member states. "We have a very serious situation unfolding before us," he said. He was speaking as the number of confirmed infections worldwide crept towards the 30 million mark. More than 942,000 people have died since the coronavirus emerged in China late last year.] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54189575 |

New England-wide measures which could see hospitality businesses forced to shut are being considered by the UK government to try to slow a second surge of coronavirus cases.
A short period of national rules - a "circuit break" of a few weeks - could be announced in the next week, BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said. Schools and most workplaces would be kept open during those weeks. But no final decisions have yet been reached on the next course of action. At a meeting on Wednesday night, the government's chief scientific adviser and medical officer predicted another serious outbreak of the disease. They forecast that there would be a significant number of deaths by the end of October if there were no further interventions. The possible measures being discussed include asking some hospitality businesses to close, or limiting the opening hours of some pubs and restaurants nationwide. The virus is now understood to be doubling every seven to eight days, with more than 3,300 new cases reported on Thursday. ---------------------- full article at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54199642 Last edited by bitontheslide; 18-09-2020 at 04:01 AM. |

...they speak of interventions but they didn’t foresee to be prepared with tests required...

it sounds bad from a testing perspective and I feel they should have done much better, but what I would like to know is how the other countries are doing in europe with testing ... are they better or worse. At one point we were leading europe in testing per capita ... is that still the same

The government deal in propaganda, giving us sound bites in the hope that it distracts from reality, but we are not alone in this ... there should be all sorts of metrics available that allow us to directly compare us against the rest of europe, and the media isn't giving us this information .... why not. Number of infections etc isn't all that is available

...unless the comparisons were being made and looked at of a European country who ‘had it more under control’ as it were, then focus needs to be on ourselves, I feel...and on our government who appear to give us no truths and are so manipulative...

Cases still massively concentrated in the north of the country and the midlands, why tighten controls nation wide while cases are still so low in the south west and east

lack of testing is their problem. I'm guessing that their random test sampling across the country is showing upward trends in areas not officially obvious yet

Yep it is correct. As of midnight my area is in lockdown. We arent allowed to meet anyone in another household in any setting, garden etc. Yet we can go to work and school just fine and mix with who we want there......

the reason it's still ok to go to work etc is because they are regulated covid safe areas ... home environments are not regulated, hence the restrictions
