He hasn't said anything about it..
While now saying staff have to wear mask/ facecoverings too.
He hasn't raised the exemption issue.

As to those who claim to be exempt with no official documentation to support their claim, medically or otherwise.

i will make a prediction now that none of these new measures will affect the infection rate. People were wearing masks anyway etc ... this will not bring the infection numbers down

Not that I'm saying they could do more; the rise is most likely due to the (growing) section of people who are not currently following the rules that are already in place, and they're not going to follow any new rules either, so it doesn't REALLY matter what new rules are announced. Fines might discourage a few. Probably not. They're mostly empty posteuring.

The other option is physical enforcement of rules and frankly, with the current global political temperature, that'll only end in city centres on fire. Shrug.

yeah, the measures wont change anything related to infection rate ... maybe the working from home will change it a bit

I feel like I've really come full circle on this now. I remember being adamant back in April that people wouldn't comply long enough for there to be any point in huge restrictions... I sort of moved away from that stance because people did seem to be being mostly sensible... but yeah, it turns out people won't comply long enough for restrictions to work. It was a one-shot deal and compliance will only drop further over time. I guess I should trust my gut reading on human nature more, it's never far off the mark, I've fallen victim to self-doubt .

Doubt it, most people who can work from home still are working from home in Scotland (everyone office-based I know is, including people working for some huge Edinburgh based finance companies) and it's made **** all difference to the increase in Scotland vs England.

yeah i think those that can work from home still are. They still have time to shield the vulnerable, that's what they should be doing now and yet Boris said no need for that yet .... I dont believe that for a minute

In fact, if you look at the graphs of basically every country in Europe, the shapes of the curves are similar or close to identical and always have been. Some variation in actual numbers and levels but the trajectories just don't vary much, despite plenty of variation in response. Feels quite a bit like we're firing peashooters at a freight train and then patting ourselves on the back when the driver coincidentally hits the brakes at the same time, and lambasting people for not launching enough peas when the train speeds up again.

That's not to say that it's all pointless, stopping ICU's from being overwhelmed is as important as it ever was but I think at some point everyone forgot that's what we were doing, and started to think we were "beating" the virus with our fleshy little brains.

But the best way to stop that from happening was to use the time we had over summer to dig those ICU trenches deep, pile money into them, accept that the second wave was coming no matter what and make sure that hospitals weren't "safe from being overwhelmed" because of fewer cases - but because of greater capacity.

We've done jack **** with the respite time we had.

I'm not shielding.
I have to work or I won't be able to pay rent/bills.
Also, I refuse to hide away.
The best thing to do is wash your hands, keep distance and wear masks where required.

I think people in this country have been very obedient really. Maybe more so than other countries (looking at the economic numbers).

To me it looks like this virus is a force-of-nature that can't be stopped. other than locking people in their own homes, which you can't do forever.

That's very much my conclusion too and the simple fact is that the majority of the population don't need to do anything ... we have one/two groups of people that require extra protection. If we opened up fully we could still protect them from the benefits we would see from the economy

if my mom was health minister, she said she would put in a nationwide requirement to wear face masks

closing pubs, not necessary stores, leaving only supermarket open, cancelling all football matches

I can just see the headlines tomorrow

Christmas is Cancelled!

Well no it isnt cancelled..... I can definitely see the levels of cases/deaths going up but not maybe as much as the worst case scenario is telling us so it hopefully will be in a better place by then but im thinking not

It isnt cancelled...people need to use their brain to adapt to a different christmas....enjoy the fact it will be more intimate, use zoom for having present opening, meals, a cheeky drink together, use amazon etc to send your presents. Actually use a phone to ring your loved one up and have a meaningful chat

It isnt cancelled

(I must say I havent ever celebrated christmas so its not any different for me. But during that time I do tend to do a lot of stuff with different family and friends and we do a day for all the kids in my family/sisters family where we play games they are given presents etc this is usually the weekend they break up from school. Sad that we cant do that this year but zoom will come in handy!)

If the group that doesn't comply is large enough to sustain transmission, it doesn't really matter if everyone else is obedient and I think people are getting tired and either deliberately rebelling, or simply getting sloppy. I haven't seen many people defiantly rule breaking, that's true, but things like 2m distancing in supermarkets and religious hand-sanitising on the way in and out of shops? It just doesn't happen like it did at the start. I've been complying regardless but I still managed to wander into Pets @ Home a couple of weeks back with no mask on - totally forgot - and I often forget to use hand sanitiser as soon as I get in the car after I've been into the shop. I so usually remember but not until I've touched loads of stuff .

Social distancing is the main one I think. If you're in the shops and someone is umming and ahhing over a selection on a shelf, and you can't get past them without coming within say 1m of them, realisticall at this point how many people are waiting for them to move, or going around another way? Most people will quickly tiptoe past. As though tiptoeing somehow makes infection less likely .
