Its especially reckless because now you'll have a nice new chunk of people getting sloppy with taking precautions "because it's cured now!"
That is what the press have done throughout the pandemic, why stop now?

I agree with TS as to cautious optimism.

It is signs of a major probable breakthrough so very welcome.

I'm afraid however, I wouldn't trust a word that comes from Hancock's mouth.

Yes however, let us hope this will be one of, if not 'the' breakthrough needed in this virus.

Massive credit and all hopeful wishes to the scientists working round the clock to find some effective way of dealing with this vile virus.

Fingers crossed but still with caution for me until more time has passed to learn much more from the results of the trials of this vaccine

It will take some time to make sure it's safe.
But it will protect the most vulnerable and I'm very happy about that.
Of course life won't get back to normal yet, but things are finally looking up.

So,

44000 were in the trial

22000 got a placebo, of this group 94 went on to catch Covid.

22000 got the real vaccine, of this group 5 went on to catch Covid.

This is how they arrive at the figure of 90% effective.

It's a very good sign and I think it's evident that the protection is good. I think it would take a larger study to accurately show a true %age, though, as that 90% alters significantly if even, say, 7 or 8 of group 2 had got it. I think it's fairly certain that it's well above 75% though.

There’s never been a whole worldwide effort to get a vaccine before. And the fact that scientific developed has massively improved since the last pandemic over hundred years ago.

the trial numbers will be much larger when reported at the end of this month, so that will give a clearer picture

indeed, our medical expert on corona, doctor Diederik Gommers who's for us dutch at the frontline he also questions why they do bring this out into the media this early, and he would want to see scientific data first, and it being studied thoroughly

Were the 97 from the two groups? they didn’t specify as all went about their daily lives

They had to do it "naturally" (i.e. have a vaccinated group and a control group and then just let them go about their normal business and see what happened) for ethical reasons in this case because of Covid being potentially fatal.

There would be MUCH more robust data if you could deliberately expose all 44000 participants to Covid and see how many vaccinated individuals were infected vs the unvaccinated control group.

But yeah... there would be over 100 deaths in a best-case-scenario* there so for obvious reasons, we can't do it that way.

*(Best case scenario being all of the vaccinated group being immune, and about 3/4 of the unvaccinated group being infected, so around 15000 total cases)

[Poole shop Happy Buddha fined Ł2,000

[Council officials say they issued a fixed penalty

follow guidance and advice offered.]

He is not essential
and he said he will not pay the Ł2,000 Fine?

He has 2 shops facing Ł1,000 fine.

Should they Jail him?

The schools in North Lanarkshire are absolutely riddled with cases including primaries and family centres and the local councils have been caught trying to fiddle the numbers to make it look better than it is

They need to close the schools and universities.
At least during the lockdown.

there has to be a real danger of this happening if the results are collected regionally and someone in charge happens to own a business that could be seriously affected by bad numbers

Are they sending the kids home to isolate Josy? My lad is on his 3rd period of isolation. He's spent more time at home than he has in school. Its a joke
