Ridge now on SkyNewsHD
is extended to 10AM

And also Marr BBC1HD is extended until 10:15AM

On Ridge
First Guest Dr Chaad Nagpaul (Chair, British Medical Assoc., Council)
said there is not enough staff to open the Temp., made hospitals.
And he said 1 in 3
will not know they are carrying the virus.

One main problem with these 2 shows
is the same Main Guests are on both.
SkyNewsHD has them first.

if the virus is 70% more infectious than the previous generation, it will have undoubtedly have spread across the world already. The simple fact being that its already transmitted before people realise its there.

Interestingly they came up with this 70% figure, but not a word on how to enhance protection against it. It seems to me that they no longer know if 2 metres and mask wearing is effective.

Vaughan Gething told BBC Radio Wales the stay-at-home rule was introduced last night "partly" as a result of a new strain of the virus.

The variant had been "seeded" in all parts of Wales, including the north.

Ministers have been shown evidence that the strain is "much more infectious", he said.

You wonder why I’m a tad pessimistic about the Covid situation ... it doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago since the first vaccine was administered and everyone and his uncle was practically ready to party ...

I asked you to explain something you posted...specficically the bit in bold, of course a vaccine is a source of light, but it has always been at the end of the tunnel, ie it’s not here yet

As a guess I would imagine indoors/enclosed contact is still the most likely area of transmission, the increased infectiousness may simply be how likely you are to become infected yourself if exposed to an infected person in that way. So let's say you previously had a 30% risk of catching Covid if you were a Covid contact... With it being 70% more infectious (an oddly precise figure considering how recently it was discovered, but whatever) then you would now have a 30 + (0.7x30=21) = 51% chance of being infected by them.

[note: I pulled the 30% figure out of a hat for an example, I don't know what the actual risk percentage was before]

The end result of course is an exponential increase as more people than before are infected, who in turn infect more people than before, etc.

Of course,
All those that packed into railway stations
last night, were legal to do so.
(some could be Covid-19 Variant carriers, without knowing)

Thats why BBC Laura's first question was
how do you stop people rushing to leave London.

Am I the only one losing faith that we will ever return to the 'normal' we knew, like ever?

Hang in there by Easter there will be a better picture I am sure...watched a report on Wuhan during the week and they are back to normal apart from wearing face masks which they tend to do anyway

There will be distinct changes in a lot of areas. The high street is never coming back for example, international travel will be significantly lessened for decades and I think there will be a far more widely accepted culture of working from home.

To be fair; I don't think the latter two of those are necessarily negatives.

If you mean the virus... Well... The brutal reality is, it's far from the worst virus we've ever faced (as a species) and if it can't be beaten through vaccination then we will just have to learn to live with it. There is no option three, it's not going to be suppressed at this point, the idea that it could be is insane and the countries who have done so successfully so far will either be hit at some point or have to live in global isolation forever.

In Asia
like South Korea
they still are getting infections.

You need a report every 3 weeks

I do at times when I'm having a low day with it all. Then I think we have to get back to normal at some point. I do think though that more people here will continue to wear face coverings and be more aware of hand hygiene going forward.

I think it will be a long time before I'm fully comfortable in big crowds etc again
