that is certainly true for the pfizer and moderna vaccines. Their vaccine is based on producing anti bodies against the coronavirus spike which is what it uses to enter human cells, and that is still present in the new variant

It's not really like that, viruses are self-replicating, they don't have "breeding traits" not are they in competition for resources so natural selection doesn't really apply. So yes lockdowns would kill off the less easily spread strains more easily, but that wouldn't have any effect on the numbers of the other strains.

yes they would, if someone is infected with one strain of covid, it's unlikely they would be infected by another, so the fast moving virus gobbles up the majority of hosts and the slow moving virus has nowhere to go

Default Coronavirus Outbreak (Prime Minister Live 5PM)

Intriguing...

No actual lab reports on the new variant are available yet !!

We already know that ‘modelling ‘ is hardly reliable

I think it's pretty much confirmed (sine it's been sequenced) that the new strain isnt different enough to the original to make the vaccine any less effective. It's just that to achieve herd immunity, the more easily it spreads, the higher a proportion need to be immune to drive it down. Herd immunity isn't necessarily THAT important though if vulnerable groups can be effectively vaccinated. The group it does pose problems for is immune-suppressed people who can't have the vaccine.

In reality, the immune suppressed community have never had it so good as the time since March. I think overall, their quality of life has probably improved in that period

Loads of Car Drivers & Lorrys
got onto a Portsmouth Ferry last night at 10:30PM
but woke up back at the UK.

That's a real shame for them.

Also from BBC1 London News
Police stopped a Party in "trendy Chelsea"
over 30 people in there.

It’s worrying that children are apparently far more susceptible to this new variant according the a guy on Sky earlier

To carrying it, children are not at any increased risk of serious illness.

These lorry drivers have been in and out of the UK all through the pandemic and will be very aware of how to keep themselves safe , to deny them access back home days before Christmas is a horrible act of political posturing on Macrons behalf, on top of that he is trapping UK drivers in France so it’s not really ideal from a PH point of view

It’s not really, as we would be seeing an increase in children’s hospital admissions by now?

As its been circulating since September I think we would have begun to hear of kids getting sick now if that were the case. Especially with all the cases there has been in schools. We've always known they are spreaders.

Given our cases went from 12k per day to 35k per day in less than a week, I dont really blame the rest of the world quarantining us until we have more information

Hopefully the vaccine will help to bring the cases down.
I will definitely have it when they offer it.
So I will be protected at work.
