Still difficult to believe we just decided to freeball it and see what happened, and that people were defending them for it.

well thats not the case is it. The vaccination authority made the decision, and thats their role. I don't know enough about it to know if its right or wrong, but i will happily take any jabs i can get

You have no idea. I was being way more charitable than my actual thoughts on the matter; it's not like this government hasn't already forced numerous professionals to take steps against their own expertise.

Experimenting (which it demonstrably was) on us in the middle of a raging pandemic/mutation, by ignoring the advice of the vaccine manufacturers, can't be whistled away.

i don't believe a word the government says now, but the vaccine authority are independent and if the government had forced them down the greater interval path, someone would have squealed about it by now

What Whitty said about the interval made sense, time will tell

The legal profession is also independent, and well...

Just watching the South African health minister on Sky News ... their health system is teetering on collapse . Although their new variant doesn’t appear to be any more harmful/severe the ridiculously high numbers involved sadly equate to far worse outcomes ( deaths )

Even more worrying ( if that’s possible) is that doctors on the front line are seeing more and more positive cases in people who have already tested positive for older strains of Covid19 ...

I don’t pretend to understand the intricacies of this virus but the SA guy on Sky News just then mentioned something about it being somewhat different as the vaccines that are available concentrate on a protein strand or something but the SA isn’t targeting the same area so companies will have to produce vaccines covering a ‘wider base’ ... his words not mine ..

Hopefully somebody else can explain things better than I can .

i think it's best to leave them to test their vaccines and not speculate at this point. If we keep going round in circles, we wont achieve anything

That’s true to a point .. just thought people should know that the SA variant is being contracted by people who’d already had Covid19 so it’s entirely feasible that the UK variant MAY also be similar

Sky News update on the SA variant

Although ...

Excuse copy and paste .

Britain is putting vulnerable people at risk from mutant variants of the coronavirus by delaying the second dose of the vaccine, according to South Africa's top adviser on immunisations.
South Africa is suffering a sharp spike in cases, driven by a new variant that may reduce the effectiveness of vaccines.
That threat has been underlined by new lab tests showing that antibodies may be at least 10 times less effective against the new variant, which is separate to the mutation that was originally identified in England.

Professor Barry Schoub, chair of the South African government's vaccine advisory committee, told Sky News that border controls won't stop the virus and that giving just one dose would reduce protection in the most vulnerable.

Guy on BBC news now said he's seen data today from an immunology lab that looks "promising" re: the vaccines protecting people against the worrisome South Africa strain of COVID.

First member of my family had the jab yesterday - my Great Aunt got the call yesterday morning and went in the afternoon.

Nice to see first hand the wheels in motion.
