Default Huawei patent mentions use of Uighur-spotting tech

A Huawei patent has been brought to light for a system that identifies people who appear to be of Uighur origin among images of pedestrians.

The filing is one of several of its kind involving leading Chinese technology companies, discovered by a US research company and shared with BBC News.

Huawei had previously said none of its technologies was designed to identify ethnic groups.

It now plans to alter the patent.

The company indicated this would involve asking the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) - the country's patent authority - for permission to delete the reference to Uighurs in the Chinese-language document.

Uighur people belong to a mostly Muslim ethnic group that lives mainly in Xinjiang province, in north-western China.

Government authorities are accused of using high-tech surveillance against them and detaining many in forced-labour camps, where children are sometimes separated from their parents.

Beijing says the camps offer voluntary education and training.

What, you mean there was something incredibly dodgy spotted in technology from China? What a shocking turn of events! Why should our governments notcontinue to allow them into our infrastructures!?

China's fight against Muslims and extremists.

Scary given the technology they had.

I don't want to make comparisons between the Chinese Government and Nazi Germany but imagine if Hitler had such technology at his disposal.

China reveals a scary truth, if Hitler had chosen to go the economic route instead of war, we would have all let him gleefully carry on with his monstrosities unabated as long as we could have profited from it..

We'll tut, we'll say it's not right but China will never be held accountable for it's crimes against humanity, not unless their economic bubble bursts and they are suddenly less useful to the governments and economies of the world.

Yup and we even sort of DID... for quite a while... Britain had no real intention of going to war until Germany invaded Poland and Britain had to intervene or break the defense pact with them (breaking a pact like that would be international political suicide)... and the US had no intention of being anything other than politically neutral to Germany until Japan (then a German ally) attacked Pearl Harbour. The fluffy fairy-tale that the allies saved the day out of a sense of justice and to rescue those who were being persecuted and murdered is just that.

Honestly I think if he had played it differently and played a longer game, Hitler could have developed the UK into an independent political ally, and if he had done so, the US would have happily worked alongside Nazi Europe so long as the American continent was left alone (from both east and west). That has largely been the default US stance since its conception. There's this idea of them as "world police" but in truth there's little evidence that they're interested in engaging in conflict unless they feel directly threatened (WW2, Vietnam, Cold War), or can see a material/strategic benefit (Middle East).

President Trump is taking or has taken 3 Chinese companies off the Stock exchange by executive order. The Chinese telecom Corp Limited, China Mobile Limited and China Unicom Hong Kong will be delisted from the exchange.

The way to hurt China is through money.

They will pay for the plague they sent us.

Yep, agree.

As if nobody could see the aggressive marketing of Huawei was due to something like this... they are practically giving them away.
