So they are going to give out cards or something to prove you had the jab I take it? As its like the mask exemptions thing, it might aswell not be a thing at all tbh.

They will also really have to have something in place for those who actually cannot get the jab tbh, else they would fall foul of disability discrimination laws.

having thought about this, i've realised that only taking vaccinated passengers is completely pointless. There is no evidence to suggest those vaccinated are not still spreaders so they will still have to take a covid test, the same as an unvaccinated person. All the jab does really is reduce your need for hospitalisation.

It's pretty obvious that those thinking about mandating vaccination to be able to do whatever have just not thought it through

You can get certification from your GP for stuff like this, there have been certain vaccine-related travel restrictions for years with private holiday companies (e.g. Hep A, Typhoid, Yellow Fever) so it'll just be the same process.

It means that if there WAS to be an outbreak on board, it would (probably) be (mostly) people getting a minor cough or nothing at all rather than a potential medical disaster (since most folks on cruises are on the older side).

I'm no virus expert but surely cruise ships are floating incubators for mutations.

If the virus does get on a ship full of vaccinated people in such close proximity, breathing the recycled air, surely it is only a matter of time before it mutates to beat the vaccine?

but without taking a covid test, one infected person could infect the whole boat, and they get off and spread it merrily, they are basically all asymptomatic. The point being that people will still need to have a covid test before travel to other countries, exactly the same as an unvaccinated person.

I think it will be the same as proving a negative corona test when going on holiday, you will probs get a certification proving you had it.

Well yeah, BUT..theres bound to be a load who use anxiety as a reason not to get one. Would a GP sign off on that? Its a medical reason, though not a physical one. People could indeed have huge anxiety, which would be a legit medical reason..

Its similar to the mask thing. The way it is is quite daft. BUT, if GPs were involved, they would be swamped with people claiming claustrophobia, trauma and such, and you cannot realistically say they are lying incase they aren't as it would be an awful thing to accuse someone of lying about.

That said, any system of any kind will have an element of fraud..so it could work. I just see the amount of people claiming mask exemptions and reckon that..too many simply don't want to do stuff, rather than can't.

I don't have an issue at all with mandating vaccines for holidays and such. Its when its suggested that you might need a covid passport to visit the supermarket and such that it becomes a grey area for me, as thats actually really forcing people to get it, while claiming its a choice. Mandatory, but 'not mandatory' as you can still say no, but saying no would massively negatively impact your life. Not one for mandatory medical procedures of any kind tbh. It worries me that there seems to be so much support fr stuff like that, as its a very very slippery slope.

I actually went on holiday when numbers were down and it was claimed a covid test was needed, yet all they did was check temperatures. Had already had covid by then so wasn't a risk as such (unless extremely unlucky!) but I was shocked at..how a temperature check was all really. Glad it wasnt those PCR tests though. They need to scrap them..I likely would have showed positive with one of those, as it appears those ones pick up dead infection, so anyone who has had covid in the past shows positive, even if its long gone :S No idea what the plan was for anyone who had a temperature..maybe a covid test, but then what? Detention centre for the week then home? Would never have chanced it if I/family had not already had covid like..as would have been awful being stopped there!

Same here, I went to Gran Canaria a week before they were doing the whole PCR tests which you had to do 72 hours before flying and having to pay Ł150 for it I think those who did it at the airport and had a positive test was put somewhere iicr.

I had to fill in a form that took me ages returning to UK and they didn't ask to see it they asked the same thing they asked you

Cruise ships, more than anything, will struggle the most, they already had trouble with sickness outbreaks long before COVID was a thing, they even had sanatising stations around the ships.

I am somewhat surprised they're resuming cruises at all any time soon... they are indeed like baskets of kindling when it comes to viruses. I used to have a regular customer who was a cruise fanatic, him and his wife and the couple who lived next door to them (swingers I reckon...) went on 4 or 5 cruises a YEAR and it was a running joke (excuse the pun) with him that the odds of at least one of them getting Norovirus were never better than 1/2

Ahaha yeah. I spent a while doing that (panicky last minute, as jet2 sent me it at like 4am the day we flew back) then it wasn't even asked for and I was raging about the wasted time. Was also Gran Canaria too. Was quite dead, as touristy places were just opening back up again, they said they were all gearing up for opening properly the day we left...was a nice change actually, lovely and quiet, though not many bars and that open in a few places. Ended up in Peurto Rico a lot of the time, as it seemed things were open for locals there, so must not be quite as..touristy or something.

I was slagged off as a selfish granny killer for ages for daring to do that. It toughened my skin somewhat tbh, as I still don't think we did anything wrong, especially with having had covid already at that stage.

Mind, while people say other countries are doing better mask/distancing wise, that was NOT the case that I saw. We did mask in shops and that, but a lot just had them round chins, even back then. Had to mask to walk to a table, but then take it off when sat down too which seemed a bit odd. We did one of the drinking boat trips..as it was only me, gav and his eldest so who was 17. They actually said to us, you need to have a mask on while we leave, and when we come back into port else we could get a fine (the operators), but once you can't be seen, just take it off and enjoy yourselves, and then everyone was all over each other Was only us and another family who were English, with maybe 30 locals..we tried to keep distance incase we were blamed for making others ill, but eventually just..well carried on as normal as if nothing was going on Well, really, how can you do very drunken banana boats while distancing in reality..

Every single time I have heard of someone going on the over 50s cruises, they have became ill either on the trip, or soon after. Every. Time.

Doesn't seem as often when its a mixed trip (though have heard horror stories of some of those). But the older people ones seem..bad.

I cannot think of anything worse than being stuck on a boat in the middle of nowhere surrounded by people with norovirus. Its literally one of my worst nightmares tbh..I have had that exact nightmare a lot.

The other very real issue is that all the old folks have been social distancing for a year and will have zero resistance to any other bug that is floating around. So any massive indoor grouping is going to be very dodgy until we all gradually build up our resistance again

I agree with it, no privileges anywhere unless you are vaccinated. Obviously there are a tiny amount of people who won't be able to get it but as I said, it's a TINY amount, that's who is protected by everyone else getting vaccinated.
