True, that's my worry, that they want to keep hold of the IP for merchandising etc. and while they could still give it to someone else for games development (Sony being an obvious choice) ... I'm not convinced that Kojima would want to get involved in development while Konami still own the IP. He is of course more than capable of developing new IP's and expanding the Death Stranding universe... the Metal Gear franchise has an expansive lore that goes back decades, and that's not something that's easy to reproduce.

TBH my money would be on his next project at first being seemingly a totally different IP, but then connections to the world of Death Stranding becoming clear throughout.
