Who, Douglas?

I don’t agree.
It’s stupid but thousands are doing it, I don’t agree with making an example out of one. It’s not excusable but they are students they probably all live with other students and are not around old/vulnerable people so see everything as fair game - not worth ruining their lives over

With more Vaccines being developed, hopefully one of them will work against the Liverpool variant.

Really doesn't make sense that it's "suddenly" started various mutations a year down the line, the only likely scenario for all of these strains being identified, IMO, is that they've only recently started looking for them more determinedly.

Yes I was wondering that ... some smaller countries appear to have just the original strain but they haven’t got the technology/infrastructure to even test for variants Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I guess the divergence of the strains has only recently become more noticable too

I was wondering if, with vaccines now fully developed and more nearing completion, more labs have now put resources into identifying new/different strains and that's why there's a sudden increase in the number. Or perhaps identifying one concerning new strain prompted the search for more.

Netherlands: RIVM chief Jaap van Dissel had said the ''hard lockdown with the curfew'' remains necessary to keep the UK strain from infecting too many people, begin March he thinks the UK strain will have the majority over the original covid strain
how high the numbers in the third wave will be, depends on what measures we are going for these next few months

The mutations thing, I have felt was an excuse for ages now. Ever since the 'omg, we have suddenly discovered a new more spreadable version!' which was used to the cancel the (ridiculous) xmas plans. The strain had been about since September, no way did they only just learn very last minute that it might be a problem. In my mind tbh, they knew about it obviously, yet deemed it not that different to other mutations so no news there. Then Boris needed to go back on all his 'starmer is trying to steal xmas!' stuff, yet didn't have the balls to just say..well no, we have thought and its a bad idea. So the mutation was wheeled out for the reason.. And then, things kind of snowballed. It was used as a way to u-turn, and make out the u-turn was not just another sign of a slipflopping government, but no, THE SCIENCE!!!!! Then countries started closing their doors to us, as Boris made out that it had basically mutated into the black death or something. So his exaggerations, and timing also, created a large issue, when it was meant to be just a way to scare people into staying in (after months of 'you will definitely be able to see people at xmas), instead, it freaked the world out. Understandably tbh. I swear everytime I hear covid now I just switch off. Was in a taxi yesterday and it was on the radio and they said something along the lines of stay away from shops as much as possible (sensible) but also, you should avoid excercising outdoors, even if alone. Like..what the ****? The whole thing is really pissing me off now. As, if the government had just done what they said they would during the first lockdown (the whole point of the bloody lockdown, numbers lower so T&T could work), we would probably be in a much better place by now. Instead, it was used, unsurprisingly, to shovel a load of money to their mates, a billion or so I remember (though may be wrong on that) to make an excel spreadsheet or something. Meanwhile, again from memory so this might be wrong, Ireland managed to do a test and trace system, with a few hundred K, that actually worked. We pay 1b, and nowt. The vaccine thing might redeem them somewhat, but even that seems to be messed up. My mother in laws neighbour went to get the vaccine on Monday. And said the waiting room was absolutely bursting. Because clearly, its not possible to stagger appointments so people have less contact with each other?! A few of them were talking about it, and t seemed a bnch of them got the exact same time for theirs..so it was done deliberately. Maybe as they expected some no shows...but it was a stupid way of doing things. |

I'm taking my Mum for hers on Saturday. If I come across anything like that, they'll need to re- schedule. I've moved all to ensure her safety, I'm not having it jeopardised in that way. It's an anxious time for many just even going for the vaccine. Many who have stuck to the letter of the restrictions too. To then face the scenario you've described is disgraceful and unacceptable. The thing is, there is now a pressing target the government has set to reach by mid February. Once you start making things about targets too, then corners get cut. Which can compromise the right and necessary observances and care. Last edited by joeysteele; 04-02-2021 at 12:51 PM. |

I get theres pressure on them to do it as quickly as possible, but for me, the trade off should not be placing a lot of vulnerable/elderly people into a cramped space, to sit waiting for 2 hours. Have seen a few pictures of the same, though figured it was like those 'long shots' of the 'packed beaches'..when if you look from another angle, there were huge gaps between most.
