[Boohoo facing possible US import ban
after allegations over use of slave labour A campaign group claims Boohoo is not doing enough to stop forced labour in the factories which make many of its clothes.] [Duncan Jepson who runs Liberty Shared, a campaign group against modern-day slavery, claims Boohoo is not doing enough to stop forced labour in the Leicester factories which make many of its clothes. Mr Jepson said: "The evidence of Boohoo and forced labour is quite compelling. I think it will be a wake-up call for British institutions about how they're handling modern slavery enforced labour, particularly in a community like Leicester East. "What we'd all like, those of us interested in improving labour conditions, is for Boohoo to really get to grips with governance of their supply chain to ensure there is no wage theft and people have proper contracts.] https://news.sky.com/story/boohoo-fa...abour-12232343 Last edited by arista; 02-03-2021 at 11:07 AM. |

I will be quite shocked if anyone is shocked by this. I see a lot of faux shock and outrage on facebook. Those people are kidding themselves tbh. Anyone who claims they do not know this sort of thing goes on with mass produced 'cheap' clothing is...a liar really. I won't even consider naivety anymore, unless they are a young kids really. All adults know this. Some pretend to not know, so they can buy such items without feeling guilty. Some actually don't think twice about the guilt (and may rationalise this with..well what can I do about it?!), but they still bloody know!

Fast Fashion has a huge impact on climate change as well, but people would rather concentrate on cows causing the damage

Good, all these brands should be investigated and the people in charge thrown in prison if there's evidence of modern slavery. It should be major news that it's happening in this country. We can't do much besides boycott brands that uses sweatshops in other countries but we should at the very least, stamp out such practices in our own country.

I agree about them being investigated and charged , but how do you boycott when so many brands and companies are doing the same thing sadly . |
