Furlough fraud is currently estimated at £5 BILLION and is set to rise substantially...

the issue is that we need all the NHS staff that we can get. If say 5% refused the jab, it would be a big deal if they were excluded from employment at this stage

Well that's the thing - the UK was understaffed in terms of nurses pre-pandemic and another chunk resigned/retired due to the impact of the pandemic itself... Plus we lost another group of nurses from other countries thanks to Brexit - and also have far less wanting to/able to migrate to the UK for the same reason. They're already having to come up with ways to get enough new staff into training without firing more.

However, if not fired, they could find themselves reshuffled into roles that involve less contact with patients/banned from working on certain wards, etc.

today officially the day of relaxations in Netherlands

but not really without precautions

non-essential store rules

*only on appointment

*no more than 2 people inside

barbers

*also on appointments only, but bc its being soooo busy now, if you want to make appointment now that might take several weeks

bars/pubs/restaurants remain closed, but out of protest they put their terraces outside with dolls

NL: just in now explosion at coronavirus test centre no one was injured

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/0...l-no-injuries/

The regional health board testing centre in Bovenkarspel in Noord Holland has been hit by an explosion, but there were no injuries, police say.

The explosion happened shortly before 7am and the test centre appears to have been the target, local media report. One security guard was on duty at the time.

Broadcaster NOS said a metal pipe exploded outside the building on the Middenweg, but this has not been confirmed. The area has been sealed off while explosives experts check to make sure the location is safe.

The number of positive test results in the Bovenkarspel region has been rising sharply for several days, particularly in nearby Hoorn. Hoorn is now fourth in the list of towns and cities with the most infections per head of the population.

This is not the first time a test centre has been the target of an attack.

Before Christmas, vandals set fire to the test centre on the former island of Urk.

Windows were also smashed at test centres in Amsterdam and in Urmond in Limburg in December.

I wonder how much protection I’ve got at the moment !

I had my first Pfizer jab 8 days ago ( Tues evening- 23/2/21 ) and I’m due to return to full time work this Friday !!

I don’t think there’s any real cover until day 21 and on Friday I will have 10 days cover

Any thoughts peeps ??

Too late I’ve sent an email in and they’re letting me stay off at least till next Monday and considering my offer of working from home next week and continuing doing the Online Support or me having a week off on sick ...

Worst case scenario is they ask me to return next Monday - by then I’ll have nearly 13 days of cover

I think the immune response is triggered faster in younger adults as early as 14 days

Look after yourself, you can still call in sick, they will manage for a few days

It’s such a quandary .. I hate being a nuisance or asking for special treatment BUT then again I don’t want to get seriously poorly ( or worse )

I am the oldest member ( and longest serving... 25 years ) and at 63 I feel so very vulnerable with these new variants in circulation) .

I hate all these tv and radio ads claiming schools are safe ... I don’t know one single person in education who currently feels even remotely safe ... many are considering quitting completely as I’ve mentioned previously.

I think if you wear a mask you'll be ok.
I wear one at work and I feel quite safe.

Sharing a classroom with over 30 teenagers and a couple of staff is pretty scary with these new virulent strains around ... and teenagers are going about their lives as if there was no Covid .

I don't think I'll be able to go to Italy this year.
Vaccinations are really behind over there.
I'll have to wait until my family gets vaccinated.
But I can always go on holiday here in the UK.

Germany extends Lockdown strict measures until March 28th

regions with low case numbers can relax some measures, non-essential stores and museums

garden centres, florists can reopen either

the lockdown extension had been decided after a meeting of Merkel and regional leaders which lasted over 9 hours, Merkel is hopeful for reopening soon but done with extra caution

https://www.thelocal.de/20210304/mer...any-new-phase/

very good team Merkel got behind her

reasons for being extra cautious is more the new variants, vaccinations are going well, around 6.5 million people who got a first jab at least, and now with the extra good news of AZ being able to be used on 65+ which is very useful info from the british for them they can vaccinate even more people

also the RKI (robert koch institute) i saw a graphic most dangers of infection are at the pubs, bars, restaurants so those are very likely to be the last ones for reopening, fitness centres, gyms nothing sure about those, still very unknown, the figure skating champion of theirs Katarina Witt was last night at RTL's SternTV to try and get her fitness centre reopened under strict covid protocols but she got a no as a answer from professor hendrik streeck

Not sure if people know this but if you are a parent or in a support bubble with school age kids you can now get a supply of the Lateral Flow tests for home testing.

Yep....he cannot wait. I'll miss him, I feel a little more employed when he's at home but he hates it and can't wait to get back to his mates.
