Default What’s the longest you’ve ever been on hold?

Currently on hold to HMRC (20:34 so far) I think longest I was on hold was to the bank once for 54 minutes before I gave up

What’s the longest you’ve been on hold for?

I was on hold for near 3 hours once to HMRC. Then, when it connected it did that weird beepy noise you get when someone hangs up, before I could even speak. Was raging, totally raging. Next wait time only took 40 mins or so...which is still shocking. But by the time it actually connected, my anger had gone down (which may have been for the best ) and then it bloody turned out they had sorted the issue already and a letter was in the post, which then was posted like half an hour after the stressful calls..

HMRC and DWP are horrific for this. I helped my mother in law claim her pension a couple of months back (still not been bloody paid it yet though...) and it was such a ridiculous saga. They wouldnt listen to a word, said I was wrong despite being told to ring this certain part by someone in the part I rang first, and so on.

Those stupid ****ing robotic answering things and holds..bane of my life. Rivalled only by self service checkouts.

Default 15 hours on hold

Andrew Kahn, called Qantas Airways to confirm his flight from Adelaide, Australia, to
New York City, The Telegraph reported. He was put on hold and told a representative
would be with him as soon as possible.

"I wanted to find out what exactly they meant would be as soon as possible," he said.
"When it got to over two or three hours that was the point where it was like: 'OK let's
ride this out'."

He phoned the airline at 7:22 Wednesday evening and finally hung up at 11:01
Thursday morning. During his wait, he surfed the Internet, slept briefly and caught up
on some reading. He never did speak to anyone on that call.

If Skye had not been hovering right in my face (which didnt help either..really) am fairly sure I would have threw the phone or something. Which of course would not help. Even thinking of it now brings back the pure rage I felt at the time..

Then once the letter was there I hated myself though of course I couldnt have known it had been put in the post already and was almost here. Then back to anger, and I actually emailed my MP Suggesting that the likes of HMRC, if their system cut someone off...or even if someone 'hangs up' (which would be cut off really after ages on hold...in most situations anyway), they should bloody well call that person back. Its not like they dont know how bad the waitlists are. Its also not like its the hardest thing in the world to call back someone who has been waiting hours then gets cut off..

He did not reply to me though But it still seems the best way to do it. Or even do what some of the broadband/tv companies do. Dont remember who it was with, but will be a few years ago now, had to ring our provider and was expecting forever waiting. But they had the option to retain your place in the queue, but hang up and someone would call YOU when it was your turn. Much better all round, surely?! Maybe too much common sense.

48 minutes a few weeks back to NHS24 as hubby had broken his wrist.

Then a few days later 25 minutes to Sky as it had stopped working. Then another 20 minutes to Scottish power as our heating/hot water had also stopped working!

Honestly Niamh! Just everything at the one time.. a burst pipe too, mice moved into the garage, and at the same time as all this, we were completely snowed in! Fave couldn’t drive because of his wrist anyway (and I can’t drive) and we had no food (or wine!) and nobody else could go get us stuff either!
